The president has broad constitutional power to declassify documents. He can basically declassify anything. The Supreme Court: S.C. 1988 case, Department of the Navy v. Egan : "The President, after all, is the 'Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States.' U.S. Const., Art. II, § 2. The left is lying about presidential declassification. The president has the constitutional authority to declassify anything. The chattering classes, MSNBC, CNN for example, are furiously lying about this. But it's in established SC precedent. S.C. 1988 case, Department of the Navy v. @daftwulli6145 You people who watch CNN and MSNBC, and actually most of the corporate media, know so little. The President has constitutional authority to declassify anything. He can do it just by saying so. You're just pointlessly barking up a tree saying "he has classified documents" because he obviously declassified everything he took. Any president can and would do that. There's a memo recording the declassification of all Crossfire Hurricane documents.

@daftwulli6145 A president can and does declassify documents just by decree. So he obviously declassified them. The Supreme Court has ruled that it's a constitutional power, from his role as Commander in Chief of the military.

@daftwulli6145 The president has absolute and final authority in declassifying. So it doesn't even matter if you don't believe it. It's NOT something you could prosecute an ex-president over. The possession of documents is a civil matter. It's not something he can be prosecuted for. This is really about declassified spygate and Russiagate documents. The FBI/DOJ doesn't want documents published that will embarrass them.

@Andrew-it7fb The president has the ultimate authority in declassification. This is in the SC judgement I mentioned. The president can declassify by just saying so. He usually makes a record. But it's not necessary. The SC has ruled it's implicit in his powers as C. in C.
