MrBhargava27 The US was also allies with Stalin in WW2. By the 90's OBL was a sworn enemy of the US, and the Saudi kingdom. Hersh seems to think the Saudis would fund OBL? They've tried to assassinate him several times.

@AarronnBlade That was the 80s. OBL was an enemy of Saudi Arabia and USA in the 90's. And I don't really believe the Russia supplies the Taliban. That's just like the "Russian bounties" story, which the DOD denies. "Some people suspect" is just a rumor, not a fact.

@AarronnBlade The BBC story I found didn't provide such solid evidence. "The general admits it is hard to quantify how much support Russia is actually giving the Taliban, but senior Afghan police officers and military figures have told the BBC that it includes night vision goggles, medium and heavy machine guns as well as small arms." There are probably that much weapons leaking across the Mexico border to cartels, but it's not active support.
