Antifa has it's origins as the Antifascista Aktion, the paramilitary wing of the German communist party of the 30s. The helped the rise of the Nazis because they were more violent than their counterpart the SA, of the Nazi party.

  2. The mainstream left is currently defending Antifa as fighters for liberalism--comparing them with WW2 allied soldiers in twitter posts. That's a tactical mistake. A youtube search will give videos of them knocking someone out cold and beating him with poles while down in Berkeley, looting an electronics store in Hamburg, smashing people in the head with a U-bolt bike lock in a sock, throwing bricks into crowds, punching reporters in the face, pepper spraying old people and women, and noble acts of property destruction like destroying a limo owned by a middle class immigrant.
