  2. From what I've heard, almost no aircraft use a straight turbojet engine.   Supersonic fighter jets use turbofan engines, but with a smaller bypass ratio than commercial aircraft.

  3. It must not have been a very old growth of trees. In old forests there are trees 2 meters across, which if you hit at 200 knots will kill everyone.

  4. I assumed that pilots of large airplanes always took off with a high climb rate and high throttle, because at high altitude there is much more margin for error. Though there does seem to be a very rare Three Stooges syndrome where a confused pilot puts the plane in a high altitude stall.
