Cooper Carr The total US exports amount to about 1.3 trillion.People like Abby Martin speak with their ass.

zombiesingularity Chomsky is so geriatric that all he could do is mumble some stale outdated argument about US imperialism.
15
Bobby Uttcrumbs Ok. When did he say we should use the military to subjugate other nations?
5
elguapoalso The latest ridiculous one is with Cenk Uygur, who is really kind of a dimwit. Sam Harris spent 3 hours calmly discussing his positions with him--giving TYTs the highest rating they're had. Then Cenk has been dumping on Harris all the time when he's not there to defend himself.
5
According to Abby Martin Obama want to kill browned skinned people. Yep, that makes total sense.
4
***** They didn't. Coalition forces probably killed at most 30,000 people in Iraq in Afghanistan. Most of the death is due to a Sunni vs. Shia sectarian war. They were blowing up each other's Mosques--insurgent attacks not coalition fighting.
3
iTzMarK That's all true. But you might get some polonium 235 in you're coffee for dissing RT.
3
Red Lion I think Aslan is an obscurantist. He makes arguments with the intent of muddying the waters of the debate, not because he actually believes it. For example, he has stated that violent Jihadist organizations like al Qaeda should be attacked militarily. But when Sam Harris says the same thing he claims that Harris is a dangerous genocidal fanatic.
3
MrGenedancingmachine I think you're projecting.
3
It's interesting how so many people misrepresent Sam Harris' ideas. When you listen to Abbie Martin or Cenk Uygur discussing Harris they create a total strawman.
3
Cooper Carr That's actually a surprisingly low number. The US has high tech manufacturers like Lochheed Martin and McDonald Douglas working in military and aerospace. But it's not like selling F35s to Japan and Australia is arming despots. The USSR was the primary supplier of Saddam Hussein, with France coming second. But people like Martin just spew conspiracy theories, and facts don't matter.
3
We can't get off oil because there is no other way to power airplanes. It is possible to build nuclear rockets, where plutonium heats water, but we'd have a nuclear accident whenever there was a crash.
2
boeos The sanctions don't include food and medicine. The economy of Iraq was a mess, but that was because Saddam started a huge war with Iraq and then Gulf War I. Those were both his choices that bankrupted Iraq and cost 1 million lives.
2
Chris Hall Nobody got owned. Those numbers are always in dispute. The Iraqi Body Count actually counts the bodies of the dead in Iraq and Afghanistan. The other estimates just estimate the number of additional deaths caused by conflict, which of course if a very vague estimate. The vast majority of deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan were due to insurgent attacks, ied, suicide bombings, Mosque bombings, not coalition actions. I suspect that Martin might have sympathy for those militants. In other words, I'm thinking of the people who want to demagogue the death, but don't care about the people who are killed.
2
52TeleGtr He supports using the military to defend civil society--just like 99% of the people.
2
ElectricQualia No. I think effective security always profiles. Random checks are ineffective. They look for people acting suspicious, nervous, etc.
2
***** "Charlie Hebdo was all about causing offense with their shitty cartoons not a great loss there if a few of their 'artists' got shot" I think I speak for other here when I say: Fuck Off!
2
Dsi1ver It was in an old episode "Super Best Friends" I think the title was. Subsequently to the more recent controversy that episode was removed from the Comedy Central website also.
2
It's interesting that the notion of intention is such a hang up for people on the left. Noam Chomsky got thoroughly offended that it would be a topic for open debate. But I guarantee that if say, Noam has a rental and he's negligent in skipping an inspection and people die due to a gas leak, he will not consider himself a murderer, just as I wouldn't.
2
selvmordspilot What's really revolting, is that people like Abby Martin, or at least the "anti-war" left, deliberately ignore the attacks on the Kurds in the 80's, before Gulf War I, and Saddam suppressing the uprisings in '91. This amounted to at least 200,000 civilians killed deliberately by the Iraqi government.
2
Zachary Self Even Glenn Greenwald gave GW Bush lukewarm support for the invasion in 2003. You're the one being ahistorical.
2
NorHeadHunter Why do you say that?Sam Harris has made it clear, over and over again, that he didn't support the invasion of Iraq. It is strange that Sam Harris' critics don't actually listen to him.
2
charlesvan13 The US certainly can be blamed for causing a disaster in Iraq which lead to more misery. But people like Chomsky completely ignore any responsibility for the other actors, who actually caused most of the death: Taliban, republican guard, al qeada, ISIS, etc. I don't even think Chomsky is more moral. A US commander who targeted a Mosque would get court marshaled, as it's is war crime for NATO, but it's standard practice for the enemy.

The call to prayer would make a good ringtone.
1
Brent Giantsbane That has all the same issues as a plutonium reactor. It would work as a missile, and the military worked on such things in the cold war. But any passengers would be backed by the radiation. A nuclear reactor core has thick concrete shielding. You can't build an airplane out of concrete. It sounds like you might have heard the fake press releases on the "thorium powered car". Thunderf00t has a video explaining where there isn't such a thing. It's a crowd funding scam.
1
Jon Wise Uhh, no. Planes are completely necessary for how people live. All conferences in my field are international. People from overseas countries could attend without airtravel. It would take weeks to cross the Pacific or Atlantic by ship. I know people who fly between Asia and America about 5 times a year.
1
Jon Wise Traveling from NY to Beijing in 2 hours would require a space craft. That would burn much more fuel. There are no other power sources that are close to development, i.e. more than science fiction, that could power an airplane besides oil.The world has plenty of authoritarian governments like Saudi Arabia. Russia jails protesters also. So I don't see the big problem with trading with Saudi Arabia. The government doesn't have a choice with the Sharia enforcement, because the devout Muslims demand it, as the caretaker of the two holy sites.
1
Chino Gambino I think Sam Harris is not right when he says would could get off oil dependence now. There are serious problems with producing bio fuel. It takes energy to produce ethanol. All the government ethanol programs end up canceled because they don't produce much more energy than they consume. It's more a product for the future, in 100 years when the crude oil deposits are drying up.
1
Dsi1ver That's even idiotic for a conspiracy theory. The U.S. government, the president and the state department denounced the video.
1
***** No.Chomsky was a good linguist. But his political commentary is shallow and dogmatic. He equated the raid on bin Laden to Iraqi commandos assassinating Obama.1. he forgets that we are allies with the Iraqi government.2. He puts no importance in ethics and intentions, thus is able to equate Obama with bin Laden. In short, he's a kook.
1
Ox Nard There was no discussion of Israel in this podcast. So there was zero time devoted to it. Netanyahu only came up in a list of mainstream politicians including Clinton, Obama, and Dick Cheney.
1
All you need to know about Aby Martin is that she's an RT presenter. They just flat out lie all the time.
1
***** They're both friends with Maajid Nawaz."racist" is thrown around so loosely today that it means nothing.
1
Ryan Keeping That's strange because I don't believe "Muslims are the bad guys".It sounds like you have a case of brain asphyxia like Cenk, who didn't make the case about Israel, but accused Harris of hating Muslims, which he doesn't.I've never said anything about Israel.
1
zombiesingularity Terrorist already want to kill us. It didn't start with us fighting back.
1
illmortalmusic The Pakistan drone strikes are part of the Pakistani war on extremists in the Waziristan region. Both sides kill innocent bystanders; bombs tend to do that. But only one side kills innocent people as a tactic.
1
charlesvan13 The reason, in the case of people like Chomsky, is pretty clear. It gets in the way of their moral equivocations. A typical US president or general cares about loss of life, on both sides, in a conflict (perhaps arguably, not enough) while al Qaeda doesn't care about life on either side, except the top leadership cares about their own skin.
1
battlehardened37 Actual news papers have fact checking departments, and reporters get reprimanded for lying. Rolling Stone has suffered blowback for publishing misinformation, without fact checking. Recall, in 2004 Dan Rather got in trouble for sticking to a story about G Bush's air national guard service which turned out to be wrong--the memo turned out to be written on MS Word. Sources like RT and Salon.com are not news sources. There is no fact checking or accountability.
1
Anang M It doesn't necessarily mean that a news source is edited or censored by it's funding source. But I've never heard of Politifact.
1
***** That's because the US has the most advanced military industry. I'm sure RT doesn't like it because the F35 sales are only going to US friendly countries. It makes any country armed with Migs or outdated F14's, such as Iran, completely vulnerable.
