Thanks for having me on the show, Kris! You were a fantastic interviewer, and it was an absolute delight to chat with you!

I know so many ADHD folks who do this, but my brain can't process quick enough to do it. Respect!

I have a few thoughts, but WOW is this some incredibly ableist nonsense: "It is as an easy cope for a lot of people to justify their failures and/or shortcomings and instead of trying to improve they use the adhd "excuse"." If it feels like "everyone has ADHD now," its likely because of a mix of increased awareness, massive amounts of underdiagnosis when we were younger, and a greater willingness to talk about mental health. Neurodivergent people are everywhere. When we were kids, they just called gifted, "weird", "troubled", or worse. I wonder why you feel the need to put others down to feel better about yourself.

@riittap9121 That's awful!

@DarenC THANK YOU!

@mazdakkite My motivation is that you disparaged people with ADHD and, frankly, very obviously don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

@mazdakkite 1. "Giving a shit about other people" is not "posturing." 2. I'm also defending MYSELF. 3. You wouldn't say this absurd shit to someone with physically visible disabilities glasses or crutches. It's telling that you feel OK saying it for folks with cognitive differences. 4. I do not knowingly own any stock in pharma. I'm only recently medicated, actually. Wish I'd done it sooner! 5. I don't care what you personally "like." This isn't for you. It's not about you. Crawl back into whatever dark, sad cave you live in.

@AloisMahdal I would argue that OP saying people use ADHD to "justify their failures and/or shortcomings" was what really took it too far, and absolutely was putting others down. I'm not sure if you have ADHD or not, but literally just the act of learning about it, yourself, and how your brain works can be HUGE for improving your quality of life. Regarding ADHD medication: I've never heard of a developed country where ADHD meds are not HIGHLY regulated. Even here in the US where marijuana is still illegal at the federal level, it's easier to legally purchase than ADHD meds. Production is tightly regulated. I need to see a doctor every single month. My prescription cannot be setup to autorenew. The hurdles of getting meds when you have an executive functioning disorder are staggering. And you CANNOT get them without an official diagnosis. All that said, though, not everyone needs or wants them. Meds don't just "fix" your ADHD. They're a tool, like any other.

@mazdakkite Your take? Yes, it was

@lnplum Did um... did you watch the video? I said (paraphrasing) for a lot of folks, a self-diagnosis can be enough. It's an entry way to start learning more about yourself and how your brain works. If you're interested in medication, you'll need an official diagnosis from a doctor, but not everyone needs that, and you definitely don't need an official diagnosis to start down a path of self-discovery. Everything you wrote is totally valid. But you're saying it in a way that sounds like you're trying to invalidate what I said, which makes it really obvious you didn't actually watch.
1
@mazdakkite 1. I'm NOT a guru, and never claimed to be. Just a dude with ADHD sharing what I know. 2. I didn't say "self-diagnosis is enough, period." If you want to ignore the context around that statement because it fits your ableist narrative, that's your right. But your whole ass is hanging out while you do it.
