I think there are several others, the primary being Russia cannot allow a successful and prosperous democracy succeed on their border as this would threaten the Putin regime, but making $$$ off of Ukraine's natural resources probably sounded like a great deal for Putin.

  6. Yep, lots of NATO members were neglecting their budgets and were not making NATO a top priority. Russia has changed all that. Hopefully a stronger alliance can prevent the next war from happening.

  16. Europe wants to buy Ukraine's untapped oil and natural gas reserves. Everything Ukraine can pump will flow West to Europe, so yes, the Europeans do care about bringing Ukraine into NATO and the EU. Their own energy security depends on it.

Even if he escapes this war and stays in power, the second he dies of health complications, Russia is going to do everything they can to forget this man led them to Russia's greatest military defeat in over a century. It would be nice if Turkey could get rid of Erdogan, but I think he'll be re-elected as well.
