  49. Australia's foreign policy and diplomacy has been grossly lacking and they dropped the ball. They need to do more with regards to the Pacific Islands, they should do more with Papua New Guinea and they need to do more with Indonesia. But instead they do nothing, then react when China takes the initiative. Its their own fault. China's deal with the Solomons was years in the making and Australia had every opportunity to come up with a solution and chose not to. Following the US' move is not an adequate foreign policy, publicly criticising China is not a sensible foreign policy. Australia needs to start meeting with its neighbors, including New Zealand and start creating partnerships, start investing in the pacific, start projecting power with an airbase in Fiji or Tonga or Papua New Guinea. Start doing joint military exercises with Indonesia etc. That takes statecraft and diplomacy which Australia hasn't shown for years.

Russia brought with them police riot squads, you don't bring police trained for crowd control to a war, unless you expect to capture and then control the city. After a week of failure Putin fired 150 intelligence officers, tasked with obtaining Ukraine intelligence. There are many more evidence that proves Russia expected to capture Kyiv. And strategically, they needed to capture Kyiv.

So the Javs were a game changer in that they destroyed many tanks in Russia's initial assault on Kyiv, they were the difference in repelling Russia from capturing Kyiv and conquering Ukraine. The HIMARS were instrumental to destroying supply lines, ammo dumps and soldiers, this was a game changer because as soon as Ukraine received HIMARS, they stopped Russia taking more territory.   133. Russia wouldn't publicly demand peace talks as this would be a sign of weakness. This is to pressure the west, more so Germany and France, to pressure Ukraine to do a deal, just like they pressured Ukraine to sign the Minsk II agreements. I hope Ukraine dont cave in, but then again, the west are the ones supplying the weapons so who knows what leverage they have. Either way this is a clear indication that Russia are bleeding and want to consolidate their gains as quickly as possible.

  139. The US is so cautious not to supply long range weapons to Ukraine, its not going to supply tactical nukes. Russia wont use tactical nukes because NATO/US will definitely respond if that occurs. There is absolutely no way the US allows a nuke to be used without a severe response. To allow such a thing to happen threatens the entire world and if countries that have nukes, or are about to acquire nukes, sees no response to the use if nukes, it will encourage them to use nukes themselves.   180. NATO isnt expanding eastward, but rather smaller eastern European countries joining NATO, because they are scared of the potential aggressive Russia. They are too small to defend themselves against Russia. Joining NATO ensures their security. They know that Putin's aim is to restore Russia to its past Soviet borders, which means controlling those eastern European countries. This means either full occupation or installing a puppet government. Which means no democracy for them. You cant have democracy and a puppet government at the same time. I understand Russias concern about NATO, but you develop trust and influence over a long period of time and the problem with Russia is that Putin is one man and he wants to personally see this glory happen in his short lifetime, not Russia building up trust and influence over the course of 50 years. Russia in my opinion pulled the trigger too early, its GDP is the size of Australia, its no where near the US' equal, let alone US and Europe. It should have taken the Chinese approach. The long game. 30-40 years of development first.

  189. Germany have used every trick in the book to stall supplying weapons to Ukraine, 5 months in and only now those Panzerhaubitzes have arrived and only 7. Its bordering malfeasance at this stage. So, if god forbid a NATO member is attacked, you can rest assured Germany will talk about helping for months before they do little to nothing. I'm so disappointed in Germany, its the largest economy in Europe, a fantastic country and I would have hoped a little more initiative and leadership. I expected France to cower but not Germany.

  191. The US' strategy is to provide as much weapons to Ukraine to just maintain the war and keep Russia in a military quagmire. Its a balancing act. Sending too much weapons and russia will be pushed back, sending not enough and Russia will advance. The US ideally wants to keep Russia in a perpetual meat grinder and essentially widel their military into dust

He asked him to negotiate peace a month into the war, after Russia failed to capture Kyiv. Putin said no. Macron asked Putin to negotiate peace 2 months into the war. Putin said no. UN met with Putin and asked to negotiate for peace 3 months into the war. Putin said no Putin has had many opportunities to negotiate peace and he has refused every time. At some point you will have to get that Putin is the one that doesnt want peace. The fact that he invaded was a good starting point.
