  1. It's an absurd idea, basically he's trying to create a new unregulated reserve currency to compete with the USD. There's probably a dozen or so currencies of reserve status with the USD and Gold being probably the top 2. Chinese government has actually been buying up a lot of gold in recent years. I know China is considering trying to make it's currency reserve status but it's still got too many restrictions on it to become a real reserve currency but i think it will happen one day starting in my region , basically the RCEP trade area. Contrary to popular belief this is the largest trading block in the world, it's not an entirely free trade area but nor is USMCA which is slated to end in a month anyway.
