There are sometimes I don't feel good about my country. We agree too easily to the US, Assange committed no Australian crime ( maybe now he has because we probably changed the laws ) but we don't protect him from the US International laws which apply to every citizen of the world. It is wrong and over reach. Just a quick search revealed he is charged with espionage, how can this be, he carried out no covert acts on behalf of any government. On this basis if I had US classified material I can just give it to anyone in the world and they have apparently committed a crime by opening the package. Same goes for Snowden effectively reporting unlawful behaviour according to US law by the government, well if he reported it to police (FBI) they would have presented it in court theoretically so what crime did he commit other than presentation of wrongdoing by government while Bush and Obama were in charge? Not divulge secrets should not include secrets about criminal activity based on a persons position.

Every one knows what a semi automatic rifle is when you give the AR-15 example. The information the media has probably only says semi automatic rifle.

This clip said nothing about gun laws so what is your complaint? The US has 5 times the homicide rate of all similar wealth countries except Canada, so clearly something is wrong. You wish that everyone undergoes weapons training and buys a gun , this in a country where people can't even wear a face mask. A gun is totally useless in the vast majority of homicides, if I want kill you I just kill you, I am not going to warn you , it's not a Hollywood movie. So for the mass killings maybe it would save a life or 2 but a big maybe the US already has the most liberal gun laws in the developed world and the vast majority of mass shootings. Keep your beliefs if you want but looking at evidence might be a better place to start.

Karen as far as I can establish is a racist term for a white lady who complains in an inappropriate manner. Are you suggesting this issue is all the blame of white ladies and men?
3
Here's an interesting little fact , in Australia the term ice when not referring to frozen water is used to describe high concentration Meth Amphetamine because some dealer i guess thought it looked like ice.
3
Uhm but it has never shut to US citizens with a voluntary self isolation scheme or guidance in place, so what are you talking about?
3
@t nonyabusiness You appear to be from the US and calling Australia authoritarian, your country if it is the US has about 400,000 health offence prisoners which is more than double Australia per capita. You made a note of one event in one state of Australia, while it wasn't handled that well so what? Your country has literally millions of people on limited house arrest whether through orders or it's the only way to protect themselves from a virus which is rampant, you also have thousands of businesses forced to close because of health directives and you come up with a single incident where nobody hurt and nothing happened. The 400,000 effectively thought crime health prisoners are persons found with drugs. As far as Australia being communist please check the economic freedom index by Heritage Foundation and you will see your country is more socialist than mine actually and Trump increased this with his trade war with China and increased industry handouts, which is not what free market capitalists like to see.
3
The US is possibly the most religious wealthy nation in the world and it also has a homicide rate 5 times that of all comparable nations except for Canada where it's 3 times the homicide rate or something like that. Religion is irrelevant.
3
The 9/11 terrorists were reported on and they weren't white as such, seems your assertion is incorrect.
3
A complete waste of time but the public thinks it achieves something.
3
Don't know about that, I reckon Trump would keep tweeting even if put into an induced coma, it's become a bit like breathing or a beating heart. Only death will stop the tweets.
3
@Will Reddish Biden is soon to be a president, this was not a federal crime and absolutely nothing he or Trump for that matter could do about it. Whatever the law and policies in that state is what it is. Your president isn't an all powerful God, states do actually exist and have certain jurisdictional issues.
3
More likely a video game Martin Bryant Australia's and the world biggest mass shooter at the time, it was said he performed far better than you would expect any trained military person. He was the catalyst for gun reform in Australia about 25 years ago, haven't had any incident like it since except by an Australian who travelled to New Zealand to take advantage of lax gun laws to commit a massacre, gun reform to align New Zealand laws with Australia is in process. Maybe one day the US will realise the benefits, nothing to do with second amendment, automatic weapons are already banned under Reagan a republican president, now move to semi automatic.
3
@omar-uu8qo the problem has been around for almost 50 years and Republicans have been in power about half the time, how do you figure it's one party's fault?
3
I am not American but some of this does amaze me. There are out of touch politicians everywhere but if Joe did say poor kids can be just as smart as white kids. What the hell was he thinking. Just a quick internet search shows that numerically poor white kids according to poverty line outnumber poor black kids by a factor of approximately 2. The rate in the black community is on average maybe a little over double that of white people but there is a far larger white population. If I was one of those white or black people in that situation I think I would consider voting for Trump not because I like him but because the other guy offends me more.
3
I agree at this point in time it looks like his job might be impossible when he takes over. But wait and see, maybe he will do better than seems possible now.
3
US mannerisms. The US has 6 times the homicide rate of Australia.
3
@glennw7118 The lady who was shot was in pajamas without a weapon, certainly like you say if you have a weapon you have a reasonable chance of getting shot because it understandably makes the police nervous.
3
Probably you.
3
Hopefully the air con isn't on recirculate otherwise it would literally be concentrating the virus. But regardless it's still irresponsible because now he is sending a signal that quarantine isn't necessary.
3
@richardcogbill6791 You seem knowledgeable on the matter and actually I have compared all those statistics previously to my country Australia and unfortunately the US doesn't compare well. If I was to pick 3 issues as the biggest contributors it's the healthcare system (you have the best healthcare in the world for some and your governments , state plus federal spend more than most other countries ) but it has significant inequalities and ineffective spending, lack of a consistent social welfare safety net, with drug and crime issues it's about how the matter is treated, countries like Australia or Western European countries treat drug addiction as a disease or health issue and dealers as criminals, the US tends to consider them all the same and outside of a few states rehabilitation doesn't seem to happen which leads to violent crime and overdoses etc. Rural suicides are generally higher in all countries I think , Australia would be similar in this regard. The question is how can the US change trajectory which is what matters, I have no idea what might work but it must be possible. The pandemic has probably had a net positive effect towards national cohesion in Australia, it's certainly done the opposite in the US or it's exacerbated underlying issues.
3
So how does a black Hispanic fit in Bidens picture? Will that person be the diverse Hispanic person or the you ain't black if you don't vote for me person.
3
@Suongchieu12 Sometimes there is that misconception, it's based on the countries you mentioned having mostly middle class migrate. So of course migrants will always outperform locals if the migration is this source.
2
I have a feeling you weren't in the crowd anyway.
2
You reap what you sow, ex President Trump has often stated " you know what the second amendment is for" which for those who are completely ignorant means for political violence when stated in that manner.
2
They are obviously still friendly both keeping roles and working together or as you say good at hiding it. I think the former. Regardless they are both good generous people.
2
The problem is police data in that jurisdiction showed what occured was standard practice and would appear to be inline with the police handbook guidelines and well known to the police chief for example. In a 5 year period 44 people out of 237 were made unconscious, unconscious versus death is a very small difference I would think and if the health, including intoxicants , at the time of the other 44 was the same as that of George Floyd, how many would have likely died. Effectively the authorities have accepted the guidelines were wrong and have since changed them. If I was the defense lawyer this would be my line of argument and that my client didn't know the risks and is a simple policeman with no medical training other than basic first aid who put his trust in the guidelines which have been in effect for however many years.

Read Looneylacy's comment. You are expecting too much, if Biden brings 2% more of people like Looneylacy accross the line that's an achievement. Don't think he should change everyone's mind, that's impossible.
2
@Ronald Jpones You're still alive, while there's no way to tell if you would've died without the vaccine personally it does reduce your chance of death by about 90%. So if your risk was 5 % because you are 80 and obviously not that healthy given your age your risk changed to 0.5% which is good I think.

Based on 2010 census the urbanization rate in South Dakota is 57% so similar to say South Africa if we assume that urbanisation has increased by say 10% in the last 10 years. South Africa is at 330 deaths per million and South Dakota 606 per million ( source worldometer) . It's far to say South Africa is a low to middle income country. It's a pity people seem to be dying more quickly than she can keep track. She did however take responsibility saying that she liked the ability for the state to manage the situation, so credit where it's due. In Australia our worst state performance Victoria is around 115 deaths per million and far more urbanized. Some might say unfair to pick an African country because probably more developed than South Dakota , so Nicaragua has a similar urbanisation rate and it 24 deaths per million. I looked up urbanisation rate and didn't cherry pick it was a coincidence possibly. South Dakota has failed badly given it's demographics and assuming it is located in a high income country makes it look particularly bad.
2
The masks only slow spread, what's happening in the US? It's like collective self destruction from a unified country with both political sides at the grass roots level in agreement with everything but masks. Masks won't save a mob crammed in like sardines. Maybe because Trump set the bar below sea level nothing matters anymore.
2
What do you want him to do, cause a global collapse so the world oil price is as low as last year?
2
Civil war versus invasion
2
@uncleraze3427 I don't think so, it lost contact and they believe it has or likely has sunk in water of about 700 metres. They wouldn't deliberately go below the rated depth.
2
You make sure you take care of yourself and if it gets too much seek help. Most people appreciate what you do however commenters in places like this tend to have conspiracy theorists outnumbering the rest. Take care.
2
It's not a cure and excessive amounts can be harmful. Ask your pharmacist about safe levels for anyone or doctor if you want more details and possibly higher doses if recommended.
2
@justinbailey1239 Public amenities not publically owned property which is private property under the law, the presidential palace , oh I mean white house is directly owned by the government and likely held by treasury, try exercising your perceived freedom there on that public property if you consider it to be that.
2
Chances of dying of gunshot wound in the US over the next year approximately 15 out of 100,000 and possibility of dying from a covid 19 vaccine complication over the next year, well actually we don't know but seems like 1 in 20 million or so. Please don't get shot and then hopefully you will survive the vaccine.

Just do one properly. Partial lockdown shutting local business so people travel to the next county or state. The US has an inbuilt spreading mechanism in its policy. It's madness. Australia stop people traveling from any outbreak areas without quarantine, US don't worry if your county locks down go infect the neighbor county where the restaurants are open, the California governor even demonstrated how to increase infection spread personally. With government leadership like that and the let's infect everyone states like South Dakota with 0.19% of the population dead despite it having a rural population of about 40% , total population of less than 1,000,000 and therefore no big city. They've either found a way to kill the urban population quicker than anywhere else in the world (other US states excepted) or they've actually found a way to spread the virus efficiently through rural populations. If US states were countries South Dakota would be the 5th worst just behind 4 other US states.
2
@Gina Giant where are you? Australia rates much higher on the economic freedom index than the US so if we are communist what does that make you? With a homicide rate about 5 times that of Australia you sort of already look like you have a low level civil war. They went straight back on the streets in Portland Oregon smashing stuff, what's with that? And that's after Biden takes power, yes no state in Australia would allow that behaviour and if you think we are Authoritarian based on a single arrest which I agree was misguided versus all the people being tased etc. in the US even they aren't a threat so be it.
2
@IsaiahConte I hope you are joking but if not don't do it, things will get better in time.
2
This didn't age well.
2
Well they are the 2 most powerful people on the planet, they can speak as equals, not like us who are peasants in a relative sense. Just like you wouldn't see doctors in a hospital walking around calling each other doctor, however depending on culture nurses might.
2
Nobody says that , not even US people.
2
Which state does the watermark procedure? Whichever one does that has an extremely secure voting system and should be congratulated under the circumstances because most states probably don't.
2
Some comments are strange, why would a felon purchasing a gun privately inform the seller they are a felon? Of course they won't and as it's a private sale the seller doesn't even have the capability to do a background check unless they make it not private and go through a gun shop.
2
Read through a few comments, you know you Americans are not normal right? If that was Queensland Australia we would be hunting him or her down almost as urgently as a covid 19 carrier, but you guys see it as getting back to normal and somehow reporting on some mass shooting is fear mongering. Should they only report if 10 victims wounded mortally or would that still be fear mongering? Maybe 20 plus.
2
@ymehair I just think if you are talking about others being stupid better to spell properly otherwise you might look stupid.
2
@777sweet Do you mean Ugg boots?
2
@pakde8002 as my screen name suggests I am not American. You are a keyboard warrior just like me lol I have seen your comments around lol. Your concept of nothing suggests you are American , the background noise at the moment of 1,000 deaths a day from covid 19 makes a riot and a street on fire not the top story anymore. The homicide rate in the US is 6 times that of Australia and yes that's per capita, nothing happening in the US by wealthy country standards is there is absolute chaos. A street on fire and angry mobs on both sides of the extreme political spectrum mind you with weapons and the occasional killing of the enemy is not nothing. So nothing isn't nothing by my standards and yes the Covid 19 deaths do overshadow what you refer to as nothing. Will any of this cause absolute destruction of the US no of course not , US people are used to the current standards which are way better than say 40 years ago but still way behind other like nations.
