In Australia actually decisions were made primarily by the Prime Minister and state Premiers and health ministers guided by the state or federal health officers. In my state of Queensland Australia mostly the health officer just allowed to do her job and police commissioner also for enforcement purposes. I am happy my state in particular but Australia in general ignored the continuous ongoing calls from a certain media company Sky News Australia , another Murdoch media outlet, we would be like the US.

  3. @t nonyabusiness You appear to be from the US and calling Australia authoritarian, your country if it is the US has about 400,000 health offence prisoners which is more than double Australia per capita. You made a note of one event in one state of Australia, while it wasn't handled that well so what? Your country has literally millions of people on limited house arrest whether through orders or it's the only way to protect themselves from a virus which is rampant, you also have thousands of businesses forced to close because of health directives and you come up with a single incident where nobody hurt and nothing happened. The 400,000 effectively thought crime health prisoners are persons found with drugs. As far as Australia being communist please check the economic freedom index by Heritage Foundation and you will see your country is more socialist than mine actually and Trump increased this with his trade war with China and increased industry handouts, which is not what free market capitalists like to see.

  4.  @LundBrandon  Locking down 11,000,000 people and not allowing them to leave there apartments and then building a hospital in a week at emergency speed , seems pretty dangerous to me. Not sure where you get your information from Xi Jingping going to the area with a mask on indicated danger also , Trump seems to have been your adviser that you were listening to or even Fauci early on, Boris Johnson in the begining and Brazilian president the same and a few others. Maybe your country should have been looking at China and the government behaviour there and you wouldn't have any cases in your country now.

  6. You are right about the travel bans because US citizens and permanent residents aren't subject to it and only voluntary self isolation upon arrival into the US so by definition xenophobic. To Biden's credit though if genuine they looking into having some enforced quarantine of some sort upon arrival but it's a week already and nothing I think, the virus won't just wait.

  8. If you don't put travel restrictions it's meaningless, to this day the US has only had voluntary travel restrictions and no lockdown because can drive or fly out of state no problems so by definition not a lockdown, just a local business and poor people lockdown.

  9. It was said these test results come from swabs earlier in the month and the carriers it came from are probably not infectious anymore. So it's probably everywhere.

The US doesn't know much about it's home grown strains because to quote a wise old man , " if you don't test you don't have cases" , the US has ramped up genomic testing on a countrywide level to 0.3% so I think the saying applies. The California strain isn't getting much news maybe they don't know much about it yet.

Yep and leaving the borders open to US citizens and permanent residents with only a voluntary self isolation scheme in place for arrivals while touting "travel bans to foreigners" seems a bit like doing the same thing for a year now which it is. It's almost like US leaders want US citizens to believe that US citizens can't bring virus in but foreigner can.
