@nivlz You are talking to people who don't understand the concept of a lockdown because they have only ever had partial lockdowns. The concept to your average American of a lockdown is the local bar is shut and if I have the means I will just go to another state where things are open. What the US CDC recommends in an emergency situation would have someone in Australia doing prison time in most states at least. In Australia as you know if a single staff member in a nursing home or hospital is infected, within 24 hours the entire staff will be replaced and have to do 14 days quarantine. There it's a recommendation to continue business as usual, just like those sent into nursing homes sick earlier on was also a recommendation of the CDC because they would overflow hospitals as occured in New York and a few other states. It's sad to see that people couldn't do a proper 2 month lockdown and open slowly like Australia did.

All you non socialist out there who do you think is paying the hospital?

A quick summary, we are broke and sick so we will continue the spread with bars , restaurants and gyms open and if you need to go to a hospital for another reason the medical professional might infect you, but we have a high level of freedom if you aren't on a hospital bed.

You make sure you take care of yourself and if it gets too much seek help. Most people appreciate what you do however commenters in places like this tend to have conspiracy theorists outnumbering the rest. Take care.

@montgenerejamiemcnelsonson3344 That's exactly what occurs if you open fully with no restrictions when there is plenty of virus about then you will need to lockdown or accept that hospitals will only treat some patients to any high standard. Partial lockdown then completely reopening and keep doing again and again until vaccine arrives I would suggest produces the worst outcome, however that is the same approach pretty much taken by every US state. A hard lockdown and get rid of the virus is best followed by lockdown lite where most follow the rules like Sweden is probably next best which would have meant no BLM protests and no Trump rallies because over 50 in a gathering. Private gatherings could be more in Sweden but most people seem to have not done that.

@AH-yu2pi Partial lockdowns then full reopening achieves very little because it only slows spread for a short time and spread accelerates after reopening.

@AH-yu2pi A comprehensive lockdown with the accompanying measures like contact tracing and compulsory border quarantine can get rid of it as Australia and New Zealand have demonstrated and then pounce on any new outbreak with appropriate restrictions which mostly means don't let anyone travel out of the outbreak area if it becomes serious. US states are unlikely to do this so even with a vaccine if take up rates are slow it could be around for years or even possibly forever.

@AH-yu2pi I don't think you understand there is no virus in 4 states plus a territory. Border quarantine will remain in place until a vaccine is widely distributed. The other countries with the same policy are New Zealand , all the South Pacific islands , Taiwan, China , Vietnam and Thailand ( not sure what will happen with South Korea and Japan) There are a few other countries spotted around the globe with our same policy. As your country isn't going to change policy , nor is mine and the fellow travelers countries.

@AH-yu2pi I agree mostly with what you say and definitely agree with your last point one size doesn't fit all. Comparing the Japanese or Taiwanese with our societies as an example doesn't work because they have a much more compliant populations than we do, Australia is much better than US though because the response is bipartisan here with only small arguments around the edges and it isn't in the US making things sort of impossible. I wish you and your country good luck, I hope it isn't as bad as I sort of envisage it being over your winter.
