Less chance of getting covid not no chance. Social distancing etc. Reduces the chance further.

It's probably getting safer. The bus has already stopped because of all the bodies.

The US is not at number 1 for deaths per capita yet, so a while to go. So really only top ten. So inversely the US is doing better at this point than Spain, UK , Sweden, Belgium and Italy.

@quin1364 Number 7 at last count out of about 200 countries seems not so remote to number 1 in deaths per capita. However if you count by healthcare jurisdiction US states get the trifecta of first , second and third.

@richardj2125 did they have covid 19 and did it contribute to the heart attack? Just because it was heart attack not pneumonia doesn't mean covid 19 was in no way responsible. Heart issues , diabetes and obesity will all increase your chances of death from covid 19 and the existing issue.

@olgaroche4422 without even looking I know Nigeria has slums, the densest accommodation style you can have. Just search Nigeria slums and find the source you trust.

@olgaroche4422 while I like your optimism I don't think it's hydroxychloroquine. My guess they have not let it spread to the poor so far. In countries with large wealth gaps there is extreme social distancing by our standards. The well off who get the disease first from international travel are therefore much slower to transmit it. A wealthy person will only come into contact with the poor when they serve them at a restaurant or something like that. Hopefully Nigeria has succeeded in contact tracing etc. but eventually without a vaccine it will probably be like India slow to start but impossible to stop.

@melvincastillo2496 Masks were used in the US during the Spanish flu with a mandate in some states. I realise they didn't have tv then but I think the reports that this occured are correct.

@melvincastillo2496 Well TB is totally curable unless you are on your deathbed. I guess you are in the US so not too hard to go to a hospital maybe stay there for a while and get antibiotics. There was a plan to try and eliminate it in less well off places by 2022. This however would be on the back burner because dealing with COVI sars2 is of higher priority. I don't know what your search turned up regarding restrictions in the US and Spanish flu but indications were the masks at that time didn't particularly produce a noticeable difference, social distancing did. Please consider the time though. Running water etc. Was not like now. Common sense does however tell you a mask even a flimsy cloth thing will filter the air going in and out of your mouth. If you are really concerned about the lack of use of cloth then wear an N95 mask like a health professional will and they are proven to work highly effectively if used properly. The medical staff and first responder in NY had a lower infection rate than the general population.

@melvincastillo2496 Well politics are involved. Would you be happy if 3% of your tax was spent on foreign aid primarily in healthcare. Personally I would but the majority in rich countries think otherwise so with limited money things take time. This doesn't discount the threat that covi-sars2 is. As you have pointed out with all the efforts so far and minimal spread already the same death rate by population actually as TB because it's only 6 months. If 10% of the world was infected with COVI sars2 imagine the numbers.

@Kevin Castaneda all Western democracies are socialist, so what are you talking about? Limited socialism is necessary for a functional society. Countries like the Nordic countries and France are more socialist but still function pretty well, arguably better than the US at this point in time.
