I disagree with your assessment, 10,000 dead people in WA would have put a lot more stress on Western Australian than border restrictions, just look at any Western European country or the US. There's been no mass of people walking off the job in any state or territory in any category of mandatory vaccinations which is pretty much all public facing state or territory public servants, we are not the US. I understand your fears about opening which was always going to happen with opening, look at QLD and SA as your future being previous genuine covid 0 states now opening up. WA is opening the border with a higher vaccination rate than QLD has now. Things won't be plain sailing and likely some restrictions like mask wearing indoors likely to come into effect after opening to slow but not stop spread. 1 point I do agree is WA and NZ could move a bit quicker than they intend to but one of the unspoken things is they are watching QLD and SA to see what happens and not make the same mistakes that might occur. Anyway stay calm , it's only 5 or 6 weeks and the border will start to open if your government sticks to it's plan and no disasters in QLD or SA. Best of luck.

@debe3838 I am in Queensland by the way, so we watching our cases skyrocketing but so far although very early of course as of yesterday's covid press conference only 6 people in hospital for treatment of Covid 19, have more in hospital but for quarantine purposes or in their for other health issues. The 10,000 number is simply 2,500 per million which is what has happened in many US states where they did pretty much nothing and haven't strongly encouraged vaccinations. You can argue Australians are more healthy and could be as low as 1,500 deaths per million as an absolute base case which hasn't occured anywhere in a nation with similar demographics to us and minimal restrictions, so 6,000 if you want. In practice it could never have happened being a part of Western Pacific WHO region where we all did hotel quarantine and many countries pursuing covid 0 aggressively, in other words it would be a political catastrophe to have thousands dying when no other state or country in our region did that. I think things will be fine in Australia but this opening won't be smooth and we are very fortunate most of our cases are now Omicron not Delta.
