We don't know for certain and nor does John, as Fauci said once if you knew for certain everything was fine there would be no reason to do a trial. Also things must be very highly controlled, there are 2 types of thalidomide one perfectly safe and that's what was tested, the other has one atom or something like that in a different position in the chemical chain, that's the one that caused the problems. I expect standards are higher now as a result of that ocurance and whatever is tested will be 100% the same as all product put out as vaccine if it's successful.

I notice that, whenever someone normally reporters are criticised by both sides that's a good sign to me. The approach to this virus has shown itself to not have political sides, left and right wing countries, normally authoritarian or normally quite free and jurisdictions like states there is no consistency on the left or right or by freedom levels under normal circumstances, just depends on the leadership in the location. US is a good case study actually, the left and right are very close together on the issue, open borders and mitigation only, when hospitals start to fill impose restrictions, when hospitals start to empty remove restrictions, governor's of both political parties in the US have followed this game plan. The arguments are actually only the levels of acceptable infection and deaths.

The thing the nutters sometimes cling to is suicides are rising but anecdotal evidence so far indicates that those jurisdictions that have contained the virus this doesn't seem to be occurring and it's the places that kept things open and no restrictions until it gets out of control then restrictions get imposed anyway which causes more mental health issues. New Zealand has stated that suicides have decreased. I say anecdotal because just one jurisdiction saying it doesn't mean it's the same everywhere, only time will tell.

@jfrankerickson8993 Wouldn't it have been better to teach children responsibility and a few weeks of lockdown and ongoing travel restrictions and have virtually no community transmission cases in your state with schools open hospitals operating next to normal and minor restrictions like numbers of people inside an establishment , like the Swedish model but with travel restrictions and virtually no deaths. What I say is too late now but it could have been done.
