You state they are ignoring the science, you are incorrect and here's why. In the US people were having covid 19 parties to get infected, tell some people they don't need a vaccine if already had the infection those parties will start up again killing a large number of people. You are basing your opinion on simplistic thinking and or assuming everyone will do the right thing. Voluntary quarantine resulted in 650,000 deaths, seems voluntary cooperation doesn't work, in fact where voluntary quarantine existed in European WHO region and PAHO Pan-American Health Organization region the deaths are 10 times that of the Western Pacific WHO region where quarantine was mandatory on a per capita basis. 650,000 dead people based on voluntary compliance speaks for itself I would suggest and is pretty simple social "science".

I think the general advice at least in Australia is should wait 6 months after infection, probably as immunity wanes a bit the reaction to vaccines reduces.

@mballer read my comment again, I said nothing about whether or not people are more or less protected after being infected, I only commented voluntary compliance killed 650,000 US citizens and that US citizens will have covid 19 parties and kill themselves to avoid a vaccine, the evidence of this is overwhelming.

@Zandiv I checked the TGA and Sinovac along with about 5 or so others from China, India and Russia are not approved for use in Australia yet but will be recognized as being vaccinated for the purposes of cross border travel. I wonder if China will comment noting they only recognize there own unless it's changed recently and Australia is the declared enemy yet we seem to have recognized these vaccines before our geopolitical allies.

@CoachJohnKelly You said it pretty directly actually, 650,000 had to die for your freedom to infect the vulnerable. A life expectancy now less than China a middle income country, in the US and you are happy about that situation. You're happy with your governments approach along with BLM rioters and Jan 6 rioters so good for you.

@JonathanDeaux What makes you think I believe that natural immunity is worse than vaccine immunity, a very strange comment indeed. All I have pointed out is if the US government says infection acquired immunity is treated the same as vaccinated then many antivaxxers will go out and get infection with some of them dying. If you don't believe that you have lived in a cave for 1 and a half years. I don't doubt that you caught the virus unintentionally but you are not everyone. The public health measures must consider the entire population, the US considered no quarantine and free travel very important and now 650,000 dead from that decision, the actual data and evidence of what occured is overwhelming. So what do you think the US should do about the ongoing disaster?

@cillamoke I would think a doctor's certificate saying you shouldn't get the vaccine until whatever the date is should allow you to have an exemption until that date. Best of luck , just suggesting what I would try to do.

It's sad about your father but the data based on age and vaccinated says about 1 in 200 chance of dying rather than 1 in 20 chance unvaccinated. He was unlucky basically, nobody currently claims the vaccines are perfect, the initial trial data shouldn't have been portrayed how it was because it gave unrealistic expectations. Take care and hope you are doing ok.

@mickeypearce244 no I don't have any links. My numbers are based on reporting mostly from US CDC data but it will vary according to jurisdiction and vaccine types etc. etc. The biggest variable is probably the underlying health of a population so I would expect for example the rates to be much lower in Japan for each age group because their adult obesity rate is 6% versus 35% for US. So always take any data with a grain of salt.
