Nice to see the not so subtle back down about Australia's vaccine efforts. Yes those in the UK and US were effectively phase 3 guinea pigs, if some disaster happened because of the lacking data and extremely short time frames it should have been picked up by now, fortunately it didn't happen. Also observation of logistical problems etc with rollout where the US is really patchy with some states doing well and others making a mess of it, the UK seems to have done well on this measure, another bonus for Australia is knowing what is the theoretical longest time between doses without reduced vaccine effect.

Wind power isn't baseload and they know that actual capacity in normal times will range between maybe 10% and 80% and Texas isn't stupid are they, they knew the risk. The majority of the cuts in power production are from gas apparently and on top of it all the infrastructure fails even from an icey power line falling to the ground directly or due to a tree branch which normally can fix in a few hours but guessing that's happening everywhere. Then whoever supplies Galveston water didn't have a back up generator because no need , what's the chance of no power and freezing temperatures. Gas production reduces because workers can't get there and seems something freezes up , possibly the water being injected into the well and maybe some gas well infrastructure running off mains power etc. etc. No point blaming any side of politics but not connecting to the national grid is just stupid. It's like the general EU European and US response to covid 19 the stuff ups end in exponential damage because each problem causes another problem to occur. The US had higher homicides, higher suicides (not confirmed but reporting suggest that), greater non covid deaths caused by lockdown lite, a 16% to GDP federal government deficit causing pain into the future plus of course the 500,000 dead from covid 19 directly.

@julieyork7605 I didn't start it just comment on the other comments about partisanship in the US. Yes your country is in a weather induced lockdown in many states.

Your last part of your comment is the problem because when the weather clears people will come out en mass and if the primary reason for dropping cases is nobody going out and also not getting tested, could be wave # whatever the US thinks it's in. However a large number of older people already vaccinated so deaths shouldn't be as bad if it does occur.
