All I have seen is a phase 2 trial of 50 placebo and 50 getting the medicine. Not a large enough sample to mean anything much and the placebo group had about twice as many people with heart disease or diabetes. It doesn't say if those 3 that died are in that group of comorbidities and if they were it might be nothing more than random. A basis for a phase 3 trial maybe but nothing to be excited about yet unless the date of publishing in the lancet was November 12 so phase 3 trials with a decent number of people hasn't been done yet. There have been 10 or 20 drugs considered game changers but none have been. Treatment changes like not intubating too quickly as was practiced in some countries has had a greater effect. I would also bet that patient staff ratios make a big difference, overwhelmed intensive care units sometimes operating out of quickly repurposed car parks or storage rooms as practiced in parts of the US can't be good.

@PFL44 I am certainly not against that drug and think it's good to investigate further but I am highly sceptical. Hopefully it's helpful and if it's really a game changer that's great of course. My Prime Minister advised that it would be hard to watch the deaths in poorer nations, he was right except the poorer part, it applies to both rich and poor nations but on average the rich nations have done worse.

Forget about covid , if you have any medical issue requiring hospitalisation. You can catch the virus in hospital you know so it's a bad situation. Even Australia couldn't keep the virus from getting into a hospital early on in one case, Vietnam the same, yet not a single report of this occuring in the US. The probability that Vietnam and Australia are so incompetent and the US has created a miracle is not particularly high given they couldn't even keep it out of the Whitehouse and Pentagon.
