I think can't have Osterholm because he is on Biden's taskforce but you never know.

That's the choices of you country, you can't blame the WHO for example, they said on February 21 the window for containment is closing. The US had done only 500 tests by the end of February versus 10,000 in Australia and 100,000 in South Korea both with much lower populations than the US. The US decided on no quarantine to this day, just some voluntary scheme, no state borders shut. Do you truly believe that people in the West Pacific kept their actions secret , I would suggest that's ridiculous. Your country decided on the freedom of the individual even if it kills hundreds of thousands of people, this was a bipartisan choice. If you think European and US people should be kicked out of the running of the WHO because the policies seemed confusing , you have a point. Western Pacific countries would do a far better job.

Only a fool can't work out hospitals full with all staff in full PPE , that the risk is considered real. If you think your leaders both scientific and political are complete imbeciles and China should have known this, I disagree. The lack of action on anything other than a vaccine was the plan all along and the US deliberately spread the virus to all major territories and all states. Blame your own country not others. If you had followed what China did as did Australia you would have less problems. Puerto Rico is an island before you make the usual silly comment. Not a single state has shut it's border and your nation still doesn't have enforced 14 days quarantine upon entering the US which would now be pointless probably.

The concern is/was people will social distance less actually increasing the spread of infections. Some individuals will certainly do this and will differ with different cultures. Messaging by leaders should solve this though.

@OceanFrontVilla3 No autopsy has been completed yet I would think. Also consider if road speed limits were changed to 50km an hour it would cut the road toll by 90% but we don't do it, it's all about risk return.

What is the no lockdown country? There are none of substantial size. The hard lockdown countries like China, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand are doing ok I would suggest and the softer lockdown countries like South Korea and Japan are still doing better than the open borders extra soft partial lockdown countries. Interestingly the UK has moved towards taking it seriously even appearing to want to control it's border and hopefully it starts to produce results with the vaccines. Lockdown with an open border and no enforced 14 day quarantine is a complete contradiction.

@cfs8118 I just looked at the Wikipedia timeline on what you speak for Finland and they certainly had a lockdown and claim to have 14 days quarantine upon entry. They closed schools etc. for a period of time. They limited gatherings to 10 for a while. All this is lockdown so not sure what you mean they had no lockdown. They did detect the first case on January 29 which means they weren't completely asleep like Italy which only detected a case on February 21. Whichever country you are talking about are the demographics and population densities similar to Finland and if are talking of US or UK then say Wales or a mid sized US state are somewhat comparable if they close the border and enforce quarantine to the same level the Fins do which has only recently occurred and no idea to what degree. However I would expect the Finish to be healthier and more compliant so have to take this into account. Hard lockdown and get rid of the virus is best otherwise it just keeps coming back.

@cfs8118 the deaths per million in Finland is 105 which is only 10% of the US or UK rate so definitely much better.

@tomjohnson4681 Interesting link but means nothing at this point in time until the autopsy is done. Maybe it's related to the vaccine and maybe it isn't.

The Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine is already in production in the US and many other countries. Why has it been approved in the UK and not the US , who knows but hopefully a good reason. I do think the UK approach of give as many people 1 shot rather than 2 is a good approach.
