If you can find any government on the planet that hasn't made some silly rules or done something really stupid at one point or another regarding covid 19 let me know. So that old catch phrase of a year ago which has wained "we are all in this together" , does hold some truth to it.

You are all ignoring the Western Pacific WHO region countries, it's like we don't exist. Look at evidence and you see that these countries have lower government deficits on average and economies not too bad, the socialist countries in Europe (those with 50% of GDP being government spending normally) have done ok economically because don't have to adjust much but they would have probably done even better without the virus. Rich countries with normal government spending at about 35% of GDP with the virus are basket cases.

@covidfatalityrateinunder7076 not sure what years or numbers you looking at but for the calendar not financial year it's estimated that the Australian budget deficit at 7% which is extremely high but compare that to say UK and US at 15% it's certainly much better. The net debt which is the real number to look at isn't quite as bad as you say at about 40% at the moment, however you are right it's better if we don't go down the path of US and UK with net debt it would appear at about 80% , interestingly and I guess you get from Wikipedia it shows our net debt will be only 20% approximately, so don't know how the IMF works it out because our own government number is about double.

Yesterday according to Australian government covid 19 dashboard 13 new cases coming into the country and need a negative test less than 72 hours before boarding plane in most cases. A plane flight somewhat direct from any point on the planet to any other point is a maximum of 24 hours, it takes days before a positive test result and symptoms will show after initial infection in most cases. 13 cases might not sound much but have to remember numbers of people coming in restricted because of hotel quarantine space, so it's out of maybe 2,000 people or so.

How so? Let's look at a list of countries with essentially identical policies and near identical actions China, Taiwan, Vietnam , Australia and New Zealand. Funnily enough if you carry out the same actions you end up with the same results. I don't think it's strange that European WHO region and PAHO Pan-American Health Organization countries are all struggling, open borders without compulsory quarantine tends to cause that result, versus 14 days mandatory enforced quarantine which actually works, and lockdown and eliminate as required, other Western Pacific region countries haven't done the second part as much so haven't eliminated the virus however deaths in the Philippines the worst performing country in our region are less than 10% of the US on a per capita basis. So things aren't a mistry , actions or lack there of have consequences and the consistency of results in the WHO regions shows the different outcomes very clearly. For poorer countries they have some excuse but for a wealthy country it's in the end the choice of that country however there seems to have largely been regional solidarity for whatever reason.

Negative test doesn't mean much and if the quarantine is voluntary like the rest of Europe , guess what it's near pointless.

If we apply these standards some countries choose to do with possible rare effects of vaccines to vehicles we need to ban every vehicle on the planet or maybe just seat belts and airbags because they kill sometimes, saved millions of lives but probably thousands killed by wearing seat belts and air bags. This just doesn't make sense, maybe recommend women in that age group get another vaccine might make sense , not stopping the rollout.
