I have observed that occurring in US states many times, my guess is voluntary measures to protect oneself dramatically increase after hospitals are seen overflowing and refusing patients on the news, it becomes very real.

@davidbarlow350 Ok smarty pants, explain the grand plan you are asserting in having Queensland Australia the lowest deaths per Capita in the world at 7 deaths for a population of 5 million for a major jurisdiction just behind most Chinese provinces. Are Queenslanders the chosen ones or something? Great if we are but I don't subscribe to your views it's just something about saving lives and being successful. I await your response.

Every scientific theory is based on a belief. So if I was a scientist I conduct an experiment to test my belief , however my biased observation because I am human I might reach the wrong conclusion, so there is peer review , if I am the best in my field the peer reviewers will have a bias towards accepting my theory. Scientist are human too and often accepted theories turn out to be wrong when someone later disproves it , look up Barry Marshal , stomach ulcers and see what you think. This is just one example, science and medicine isn't infallible and relies on belief in the first instance, being scientific means being able to change that belief when evidence says that belief was wrong.

@chrisstevens8431 Depends what you mean by alternative, if it's Bill Gates is putting a microchip in you to be activated by 5 g I expect you would be "cancelled" as you put it, if it's about say the risks versus not having a vaccination in under 18 years old you won't be. You can speak pretty freely actually it's only when it comes to the real crazy conspiracy theory stuff people don't want to listen.

In relation to a couple of comments there's a far more simple reason places with rampant covid 19 before vaccines were available have high vaccine take up rates and the let it rip policies have not changed in these jurisdictions. People who see lots of death around them are more eager to get vaccines. I am in Queensland Australia and we have had 7 deaths for a population of 5 million , the lowest in the world for a major jurisdiction outside of most Chinese provinces. It's still not real to us , so not urgent , however the vast majority support our cautious approach and comply with restrictions when required but getting a vaccine isn't urgent and for a middle or high income jurisdiction we have one of the lowest vaccination rates in the world, changing a bit now with our neighbour New South Wales looking like it might lose control.
