Because Europeans and the US scientist/medical people believed in it and have stuck to their guns, NZ Australia , China etc. is Western Pacific region of WHO and we have 100% compliance with 14 days mandatory enforced quarantine. How can you blame the WHO when they served us well , the WHO European region and PAHO ( Pan American Health Organization) certainly do have some questions to answer.

@daverok1113 I am in Australia, same goes for here if have cases lockdown for a few days or a week depending on various factors , not ongoing lockdown lite for a year, which many places find themselves in along with up to 0.25% of the population dead from the virus. So yes border quarantine and lockdowns as required certainly work. Before you question my number check New Jersey deaths per million from covid 19 and some other US states very close behind. Auckland is out of it's week long lockdown I believe.

@daverok1113 a case is a person who has an active infection, why do you ask? Or was your question something different.

@daverok1113 This is an issue and because our only cases are in hotel quarantine and not many of them they do diagnose people intently to see if they have the live virus, because otherwise a person can shed for up to 7 months as they have discovered and could be in hotel quarantine for a very long time. They learnt this time frame from an isolated case where sewerage testing kept showing it and the person went to get tested for a job and it came up positive, he had been in Africa about 7 months earlier. With case numbers in many countries what Australia and a few other countries do is not possible, however it certainly contributes to knowledge of the virus because things like I just mentioned can't be discovered in high case countries.

Tedros was only following advice at the time with less than 100 known cases outside of China. Imagine if we shut down all travel everytime there was a disease outbreak, we would never have international travel again. The Western Pacific region of WHO which includes China , Australia and New Zealand etc. we all have 14 days mandatory enforced quarantine, why the WHO European region countries and Pan American Health Organization countries for the most part have no quarantine and free travel one has to ask what is the advice in these regional offices, seems to me that the WHO regional offices controlled by the countries that they represent are calling the shots, or it's just a remarkable coincidence.
