Australia has no reason for emergency approval which is what is occurring in the US and UK. They are basically saying it seems good but doesn't meet our usual standards at this point in time but doing nothing is a higher risk.

I find your comment interesting. Some things go in phases I think, the first half of last century the US on a per capita basis contributed less than Australia being reluctant to join both world wars , but the second half of that century it was reversed. I think this is to do with living memory losses. So the US civil war was still a memory when WWI happened and visa versa after Australia contributed so much we want to lay low. The US does seem to be going in the less interventionist path now. As far as American accepting deaths , I think there is more of a culture of monetary ( pharmaceutical ) interventions can fix everything. The US spending on public healthcare is greater than Australia as a proportion of GDP yet life expectancy is significantly lower. On top of that much more is spent on private healthcare. The homicide rate in the US is 6 times that of Australia but the answer is to lock up health directive criminals as in drug users at an alarming rate. How does that make sense? Americans mostly live like you say in their denialist bubble not willing to look outside the US. US exceptionalism or superiority is nothing more than blatant arrogance and is a part of the US phsycy.
