This original comment certainly brought out the partisan hacks. Maybe you should watch the covid 19 press conferences by our state leaders, they are extremely transparent. They can't predict the future, maybe start your own Nostradamus Party. Each state has its own unique issues, capital city size and population density, weather, available health services etc. They all agree the only way is high vaccination rates and that along with some luck with Omicron has served us extremely well. No Australian politician is fear mongering with Omicron, just reserved optimism noting our limited hospital capacities in most states and territories.

@StephBer1 I don't know your sex but hey I love your response Ma'am or Sir. Federal health has bureaucrats that aren't physically practicing medicine, yes many of course will have medical qualifications. One of the least deaths, best advanced economy economic results. What is it you want? I voted Labor QLD for the first time putting Labor first from my memory. All Australian governments have done a great job, NSW and VIC unfortunately acted with hubris and didn't act cautiously but still by world standards they are also way up the top compared to other jurisdictions in the world. If you want to vote whichever party state/territory or federal well do so, I don't have an opinion on how I will vote in next elections , my issue is about lack of rights with owners (me) of strata title properties , zero rights compared to listed investments where the rights of billionaires and portfolio investors are looked after along with the incidental investors like me previously (still have listed investments but significantly a smaller proportion of my overall investments) . As far as covid 19 I am now confident with either party at either level of government. Anyway best of luck, hope my comment explains something to you.

MD is US English and Americans more than other English speakers especially in the Midwest and South use the term Sir or Ma'am as a sign of respect. I am not American and in Australia this would be seen as unusual. Maybe original commenter can advise if my guesses are correct.

@michellewestlake6766 The federal government has exactly 0 medical staff, what exactly did you think they would do with a workforce of 0. I am very pleased with our true competitive federalism with states (and territories which are pretty much given the powers of states by a minimally interfering federal government) competing with each other. The federal government is only there to guide, if you want to have a federation like the US where the federal government played a far bigger role well I suggest you move there if you think their response was so outstanding.

By January 10 the majority of people will either have recovered or be in hospital. It's somewhat pointless and guessing it's a PCR test which is accurate probably take a bit of wait time on top of that. In the case it is positive what is one supposed to do, can shed virus particles for months so need a doctor to check you over to see if you actually have the virus or not.

@daverlb I haven't followed NZ or WA too much but I disagree with your assessment but agree with part of your sentiment. It's better that NZ and WA open up now especially it's the height of summer, the delays will only make things worse especially if the weather cools. I think both jurisdictions will be fine but they have become almost/maybe paranoid. I am in QLD which previously at a point in time was actually more hardline than NZ or WA but with 2000+ cases yesterday we aren't ever going to consider covid 0 again, it's time to cautiously open up.
