Because adverse vaccine reactions and immunity to the virus are 2 completely different things. The first few days after vaccination there is little effect on immunity.

Their outbreak was Alpha actually not Delta. Nobody has contained Delta over 100 cases a day in a jurisdiction so far, China did contain it with low numbers in different provinces but extreme measures, testing entire population in an area for example not possible in almost any other country. Edit: Taiwan did have a Delta outbreak while dealing with the Alpha outbreak, possibly very fortunate timing because already in a reasonably hard lockdown, if the Delta was the initial outbreak things could have been very different.

While Israel is highly vaccinated they are not that high, at about 60% of total population double dosed, US at about 50%. The other point is that the vaccine efficacy is waning , that's not a reason to not take it, unfortunately it's a reason to take it every year most likely. Obesity rates based on a very quick internet search are fairly low in Israel for a high income country, Brazil is similar to the US on this score and we can see what has happened there.

@RabJ973 Like the US most healthcare services run by the states. Fairly recently a patient had an operation in Victoria prior to being tested and spread it to another hospital patient so the government there said they will now test everyone before operations. It's going to be according to risk so in NSW and VIC I am guessing universal testing of hospital patients, in other states probably not at this point in time.

They have helped, less deaths. They are not perfect we know that, but until or unless there is a better vaccine it's the best we got.

Not compared to Queensland Australia and we have had more imported cases than Taiwan and Taiwan hasn't had a Delta outbreak yet as far as I know, that's been misreported, it was Alpha. Edit: Taiwan did have a Delta outbreak while already in lockdown from the Alpha outbreak.

I don't agree, he's disappointed that we as a country couldn't keep it up , however I think he does to some extent not understand about vaccinating a population with few cases, it slows the process down for various reasons, however that's largely changed now. In simple terms , if the closet covid 19 case of community transmission so far is 2,000km away , pretty hard to make someone think getting a vaccine is urgent, if the local shopkeeper just died last week from covid 19 people are much more willing to make the effort to be vaccinated. There is also the issue of supply because we only manufacture Astrazeneca which took a while to ramp up and not recommended for below 40 unless there's an outbreak. The supply from other countries was a bit slow because countries with no cases move down the queue, that's changed to a large extent now as countries become fully, as in everyone who wants the vaccine so far has got it, vaccinated

@patriciahoke4722 Actually getting the vaccine a little slower I am guessing will actually lead to very high vaccination rates, over 70s 88% have had at least one dose. Rushing it makes people more nervous I think. That's my hypothesis, we will see if I am correct or not around January most likely when everyone will have had opportunity to get a vaccine of their choice most likely, some older people waiting for Pfizer or Moderna and they are at the bottom of the queue because evidence based there is little advantage to that age group and no increases in adverse reactions with Astrazeneca. In remote areas our vaccination rates are all over the place, that's an important area to focus on if we open up because of course health services less available in those areas.
