@angrybrit7331 you have to cancel other care of those people with comorbidities when the virus is rampant otherwise you kill more of them with the virus. See nursing home deaths, hospitals are the same perfect spreading grounds. You can't have it both ways.

It's similar arrangements as the AFL Grand Final in Brisbane it seems, some people were annoyed about that. People will get over it and it makes sense. Our governments don't have unlimited funds and this is cash flow positive overall I expect. To me it's a good idea, losing money isn't going to help anyone and will actually make helping more people more difficult.

You may well be safer staying in that smallish town than going to the city to get a vaccine. Not recommending what you should do but something to think about.

@angrybrit7331 Where the data is available a significant number of people have caught the virus in hospitals and it's killed people, so to reduce the rate of this all but the very most urgent hospital care is delayed. What is crazy about what I say? In the UK they have acknowledged this occured, in the US they don't even bother investigating but it has certainly occured. In Australia and Vietnam hospital incidents have occured. If the UK had decided on an elimination strategy and successful then other care would be normal, however this strategy was never adopted, so that's why you find yourself in the situation you are in.

You are why it can never spread and no sporting event in Australia or New Zealand has been a problem. The multi agency investigation into a single person hotel quarantine breach is of no concern, because it's being treated like a murder scene , the US CDC allows infected healthcare workers for example to look after covid 19 patients. In Queensland any single quarantine breach every staff member of hospital, nursing home, quarantine hotel goes into 14 days isolation themselves within 24 hours and staff replaced. Don't worry too much our governments around Australia have it under control, the intransigent keep borders open etc. etc. states of NSW and VIC have changed their ways , even they only take 5 minutes for a lockdown now, although NSW seems to have too many quarantine breaches they are much better than before.

@prettypuppy6752 Try to calm down, Brisbane had the same situation with the Victorian AFL officials for the Grand Final and some Queenslanders thought like you at the time, Queensland has had about 450 cases or so if community transmission in total. Victoria is as good as Queensland now, your contact tracing failures and failures to act quickly etc. are finished, if a case escapes quarantine it will be dealt with we quickly noting they will be in a form of quarantine like football and cricket players have been over the last year and not a single event has actually occurred all that time related to sport in Australia or New Zealand. Maybe some smart arse team will break quarantine but I expect they know the penalties and the public embarrassment they will suffer. It's good for business big and smal and business should not be punished because some people have concerns. It's good for public morale with things getting back to normal as well as can.

@prettypuppy6752 not following it but see in a way what are you worried about, in the end covid 19 restrictions do apply to them so Victoria/Australia not at any heightened risk.

@angrybrit7331 I certainly feel for you and if it's like you say they should risk killing you with covid 19, you are certainly a person with a comorbidity. You are in a bad situation and ok I know why you're angry now. If you think risking death from the virus is worth it compared to your risk of not getting chemo tell them you want treatment and understand you will be at great risk of getting covid 19 which you know wil likelyl kill you but you want treatment anyway. There is nothing anyone can say that changes your situation now and a proper lockdown long ago and things would be different. No idea if telling them what you want could change anything and all I can do is wish you the best of luck whatever happens and do whatever is best for yourself medically regarding a vaccine. Take care.

The divergence of culture on this issue which I thought would occur between countries that decided to eliminate the virus with tough restrictions or just keep the virus and hopefully hospitals don't overflow or lockdown lite and or stop containment if numbers go down is very extreme. High case number countries have many people just saying we give up let's not do anything to stop spread and low case countries people scared no matter how tough the restrictions that we might fail so shouldn't do any opening up especially with international events like the Australian Tennis Open no matter how tough the restrictions. Low case countries are having a hard time opening borders to each other yet the most blatent opposite policy is seems the UK and US will never shut the border or enforced hotel quarantine yet those 2 countries between them have every strain on the planet and very high case rates.

Well I don't agree , it's good to have it and the risk is no higher than all the returnees, currently 3,500 in quarantine hotels in Queensland and that's only here , 1,200 extra people isn't much for Australia and they would overall be lower risk because they will be wealthy people who protect themselves more than average I would expect. Hopefully no outbreaks in Melbourne and can have decent crowds which is good for public morale. Same complaints occurred in QLD with the AFL Grand Final and I think after the fact virtually everyone ok.

Without knowing details a GP has a lot more people and costs a lot more to run, worst case for tennis need to find a tennis court nobody is currently using and set up a camera.

@carolwalker2425 I understand your point about people being stuck elsewhere but that's really a matter of resources as in it costs a lot bringing them back, the tennis doesn't change this fact and if it runs at a profit overall for the state including all the extra business activity then it makes further resources available for the repatriation process. As far as the thing about other states, it's really got nothing to do with this, interstate travel restrictions aren't going to change because of anything regarding a sporting event.
