The Americas , most countries and Europe most countries all have the same policy, West Pacific all have the same policy which is different. Regional culture or whatever it is, maybe keeping up with the Joneses has played a big part in responses. Although a bit sad if you are in some regions it's been interesting to see the behaviour of various countries who even though a plane flight anywhere in the world is only 24 hours seem to compete with neighbours regardless of type of government etc. Canada is competing against the US and Americas countries and possibly European countries in how many cases and how open it can be and how low quarantine standards can be achieved. Australian states plus New Zealand now competing how tough they can be versus each other and our somewhat distant northern neighbours of Mainland China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand ( has problems currently but I think get back to 0). I actually expected this a long time ago because there was and still is containment Western Pacific countries versus mitigation , don't overfill hospitals Americas and Europe, other countries around the world probably somewhere in between mostly.

@bloepje Well we are half way there, it's only the Western Pacific region that has hotel quarantine for about 10 months now, the rest of the world pretty much doesn't even have it or it's completely full of holes like the 30 countries for UK arrivals, guess what if was in that situation I will go and spend 14 days in a country holidaying that the rule doesn't apply before going back to the UK. So I would actually potentially increase the spread. Rules must be blanket rules otherwise pretty much pointless.
