  1. I think he got the hospital number for VIC and maybe NSW. I just looked at Victoria's covid 19 dashboard page and it shows 564 in hospital which is very close to the number John presented so maybe previous day or something. Just my guess.

  2. Totally expected because older people vaccinated first and a 70 year old vaccinated person is equal to a 30 year old unvaccinated. If you're over 80 even when vaccinated you are still relatively high risk. People below 18 almost never die vaccinated or not and there's a lot of these cases recently.

  3. I think might be alright but it's probably highly dependant on weather. If it starts to warm up in Sydney and Melbourne then based on previous variants so a big caveat, cases should go down as it gets warmer. I am in Brisbane and our vaccination rate a fair bit behind and I see no chance of the border opening until both NSW and VIC doing okay. I hope home quarantine can work which will change things a lot.

I think they are more highly vaccinated in general so it would be good to compare, the US has overtaken almost every Western European country in deaths per million, only Belgium higher at 2200 deaths per million versus 2181 for the US. The US has more obesity on top of the lower vaccination rates.

  5.  @rodpanhard  NZ has abandoned covid 0 and are reducing restrictions now despite about 30 cases per day which is a lot. The last 2 major jurisdictions to fall outside of China that I know about will be Queensland and Western Australia.
