The Australian New Zealand TGA ( therapeutic goods administration ) sees no reason for emergency approval which is essentially telling people you are a part of a phase 3 trial as it doesn't currently meet the usual standards. I am totally supportive of not rushing and if efficacy isn't high after 6 months it would be pointless doing mass vaccinations now which would take over 6 months to complete and restrictions won't be reduced in the mean time other than possibly travel to low risk countries, China, Taiwan, Vietnam and possibly a few others in our region along with all of Australasia, after taking a vaccine. Europe and US won't be low risk any time soon. 5 cases of community transmission or whatever it is in the last week , your daughter is at a lower risk here without a vaccine than being in a country with high infections with a vaccine. The indicative date to start vaccinating health care workers and the vulnerable is March and that is assuming approval , my thinking is the TGA has indicated that they might have enough information by then for limited emergency use or full general use. Have to wait and see, I understand the dilemmas of telling too much information , it just breeds conspiracy theories and not helpful for those countries with emergency use to point out too much what that actually means because even if some are injured or killed from vaccines overall they will save lives in countries where the virus is rampant.

For rich countries that might be practical but if the costs are much higher then it would make no sense in low or middle income countries or maybe just make one or 2 hospital like that. Agree with your premise though.

In theory it might sound good but in practice taxing high energy foods wouldn't work other than maybe drinks which are almost always a component of fat people's diets, but nothing stopping them eating cake or making their own sugary drinks.

I am sceptical about the effects and think most likely they will be marginal primarily because it seems all unhealthy people register as having low vitamin d levels which to me suggests for example if you get fat the amount of vitamin d registering in your blood will be lower however vitamin d is stored in fat so the fat person probably has much more inside their body than a healthy weight person. Definitely it's worth a trial but health campaigns telling obese people that their life expectancy is that of a healthy weight smoker ( people accept smoking is bad but not so much regarding obesity ) and to exercise and stop eating so much high energy foods might have better overall results. Having previously looked up life expectancy issues smoking plus drinking is as bad as morbidly obese, I do the former 2 but only just a little overweight , gotta have some vices and I am aware of my likely predicament.

Flights have continued inbound to all countries for their citizens, it's the quarantine process that matters, Taiwan started off like the rest of us with a non enforced quarantine but soon discovered that wasn't going to work. I am not certain but believe they were the first country in the region to change to enforced quarantine ( usually in a hotel and generally called hotel quarantine or more specifically government supervised enforced hotel quarantine) which to this day doesn't exist in the UK or US. I think not everywhere always uses hotels but totally enforced with daily visits from authorities at a minimum and serious penalties for anyone breaking it, 6 months prison is maximum sentence in my state Queensland Australia. Japan has had an interesting journey and seems relied upon public shame as their enforcement measure but even they are considering hard penalties now.
