The problem is people are using veterinary ivermectin and hurting themselves, it's approved for clinical trials only in most places and that is the position of the WHO. Seems to me it might offer some limited benefit but a vaccine no matter brand is far superior.

@pohmoh3590 yes you're right many factors to consider and also the vaccination rate might be high in a state but there can be very low vaccination rates in certain areas. This is even occurring up to now in Australia, not completely for the same reasons though, many slow to get the vaccine because they have seen it as unlikely the virus will come anywhere near them, plus all the conspiracy theory stuff but I don't think that number is particularly large. In our 70 + age group 88% have had at least one dose.

Based on history in a few months time their North East will get a lot of cases but they are more vaccinated than the South so it might give some good indications of how much difference the vaccination rates make.

In response to the responses, ok compare South East Queensland similar climate to Florida (also nicknamed the Sunshine State) population around 4 million in a 50km by 200km corridor versus around 21 million in the entire state of Florida, deaths adjusted to Florida population, Queensland 40 deaths Florida 45,000 deaths. Ok yeah right , Florida has done a great job. It's true shouldn't compare to Canada because of the weather, better to get a jurisdiction with the same weather and similar demographics.

The tolerances are so small, Victoria and NZ were tracking each other fairly closely but the last 2 days cases jumped up in VIC. I think NZ is better off because VIC had a long lockdown last year and after each lockdown anecdotally at least people become less compliant or as they say pandemic fatigue.
