I was thinking that actually, it's a naturally imposed lockdown, but when things clear up you might see big spikes.

@Tigerhearty So the cull in Sweden has slowed down for now. How is it killing 0.12% of your population is now something to be proud of? Florida has been lucky and I am thinking it's because of a couple of factors including older people in that state being wealthier and better weather for controlling virus spread, South Dakota with pretty much the same policies now over 0.2% of population dead.

@tomjohnson4681 You sound like you are American, Australian life expectancy is about 5 years longer than the US and we are happy to keep it that way. Fortunately we spend less than the US on a per capita basis on public healthcare, so we live longer on the cheap.

It's if have enclosed lifts and are the bars and restaurants open. Skiing itself wouldn't be risky.

@simon-ec5kv so Australia with 45 deaths per million from covid 19 versus the US at about 1450 deaths per million is a negligible difference, really? If we cut out Victoria Australia that had some failures it drops to about 8 deaths per million. Your argument is actually that partial lockdown versus no lockdown produces similar results and I agree to a large extent. Yes weather and demographics do make a difference. To suggest that having a proper lockdown versus no lockdown gets the same results is just plain wrong.

@simon-ec5kv by definition travel restrictions are required for a lockdown, if like in the US you can pay $500 to just go to an opened state you are hardly locked down you are as free as a bird. To make you happy ok the cull in Florida is as bad as the cull in Sweden. The US has automatic spreading mechanisms built in , partial lockdown of high infection states or counties encouraging people in the high infection areas to travel to low infection areas, the opposite policy to containment , more of a share the virus approach. To design such spreading mechanisms is madness. China isn't a small island nation and nor is Vietnam or Thailand so use those countries as references should you think the racist virus doesn't like Australians because we live on an island. The virus is somewhat fond of Hawaii and Puerto Rico though.

@goodywardhunt3605 not really Japan is much richer than China, however the US is richer than Australia at the moment on paper. Japan's health spending per capita us about 5 times that of China, it's only a recent situation that China has a reasonable public healthcare system and very few malnourished children which wasn't the case 20 years ago. I expect that Japan will maintain their high life expectancy and in China it will increase gradually. Japan only has 5% obesity rate which is incredible considering Australia is about 30% and the US about 35% . It surprises me Australian life expectancy is so close to Japan actually.

@goodywardhunt3605 indirectly you made me realise something, Australia is the fattest country to make it into the top 10 for life expectancy. So we can be fat and happy and still manage to on average live a long time. Given how obesity is supposed to decrease life expectancy significantly (which I personally believe) I am not sure why we are there.

@goodywardhunt3605 as far as about life expectancy statistics, no idea about whether or not infant mortality plays a significant part, but I would say all these types of statistics are not 100% accurate and they never can be but it's very unlikely out by a significant margin. What is coof? I disagree about the importance of ridding humanity of this virus, I think that's a good idea although Europe and US seem to be ok to keep it if the vaccines don't eradicate it. Nobody is trying to take any freedoms from you, in fact they want to increase freedoms for older people and those others who might die, being dead is no freedom. Israel will most likely be the first fully vaccinated population and if that is replicated straight after with the Palestinian population due to significant interaction we will find out if vaccines will likely or not eradicate the virus. Best of luck and just wear a mask properly for the time being it's not that hard (ok I speak from a position of only having that mandate for a little less than 2 weeks and maybe I feel different if I am in your situation). Take care.
