Well Australia effectively shut the border to free movement of people only allowing citizens to return mostly at their cost, this resulted in an increased trade surplus because we can't travel overseas and spend money, this would apply to most rich countries I would expect, so from a national point of view closing a rich countries border for a bit actually helps the economy. (Maybe our treasurer is secretly devising a plan to keep it shut as long as possible)

Look at Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand as proxies if you don't trust China, all these countries have exactly the same policy 14 days mandatory enforced ( usually hotel) quarantine along with swift lockdowns and containment policies if the virus gets through quarantine until elimination. Strangely enough follow the same policy successfully you will get the same results. The European WHO region and PAHO Pan-American Health Organization region countries , virtually all followed the open borders with 10 days voluntary quarantine policy successfully and got the same results. It's actually not rocket science.

The negative pcr test only slows things a little by catching whatever percentage but missing a certain percentage, I think it's standard practice now for international travel a negative test less than 72 hours before catching a plane but as you can see every variant pops up in Australian quarantine.

@rebeccahart6770 It might be news to you but people aren't being put on ventilators because of a positive pcr test, the pcr result is not being used for diagnosis. Strangely enough if someone is sick enough but only if they are sick enough or for quarantine purposes a person is admitted to hospital, when in the hospital other diagnostic tests will be carried out to determine disease and a course of action. Why do you find this difficult to understand?

@Evidence Based Health Which WHO region are you referring to? This makes a big difference because different approaches, I am aware of the Western Pacific region and PAHO Pan-American Health Organization region and European region approaches, others I haven't looked into.
