You can say it's not definitive for every country but for countries with a reasonable government and people generally trust the government and the lockdown measures are effective the deaths have been 90% less so far. The Western Pacific WHO region has 90% less deaths per Capita in wealthy nations than European WHO region and PAHO Pan-American Health Organization region wealthy nations. The economic performance has also been better. The non wealthy countries in our region are mixed however all have performed better than the average of the other regions. Also based on what was said a lockdown is anything, whereas I define a lockdown must have quarantine and restricted travel otherwise it's only a lockdown for peasants and small business. According to the definition in Queensland Australia I am in lockdown because indoor mask mandate exists and vaccine passport for bars , nightclubs and restaurants. Our current measures aren't designed to reduce spread at all , just slow it a bit and encourage vaccination.

@susan638 You only have half the ICU beds per Capita compared to the US and I am certain elective procedures are being delayed. Your deaths have been about 1 third that of USA so far on a per Capita basis. Which is better 60,000 protestors or body bags? That's not a trick question. Certainly can argue at the edges but getting the vaccination rate high is critical. Canada is fairly highly vaccinated already , and your government I suspect will just keep pushing it as long as they can, unvaccinated are expensive to manage. Best of luck and I hope things normalize for you soon which I expect they will.

This is the most ridiculous claim ever made, so the only region the Western Pacific WHO region has failed, 10% of the deaths of European WHO region and PAHO Pan-American Health Organization region. Well hang on a minute a 90% improvement as in lower deaths sounds like success. Complete and utter joke these economist ideas. Failure is success apparently because big government in the failure countries have created short term economic success by big time handouts which helped big corporations.

I was thinking I would have nothing to respond to but from the algorithm you came up about 4th. The entire Western Pacific WHO region did exactly what you suggest with genuine 14 days mandatory enforced usually hotel quarantine plus quarantine internally. Yeah even though seems like the rest of the world hates one or another of us we have still had the best outcomes.

@shopart1488 Sounds really tough wherever you are. Hope you are doing ok now. Fortunately in Australia other than some delays in elective procedures and Melbourne and Sydney over relatively short periods we haven't got close to overwhelming any of our hospital systems. Of course things aren't predictable and have to wait to see what happens in our first winter of living with the virus in 5 or so months time.
