I checked the English version and at the rate the UK strain is increasing in about 5 weeks if it continues it will go to 90% of cases. Of course lockdown measures will reduce the weaker strains much more quickly.

If you mean that 28 day UK number it's not that meaningful at all. From and with are generally just a different tone in language however died with could theoretically include a homicide victim where the status of the virus is not relevant. Mostly those who want everyone to get the virus and they do actually exist in Australia despite what can be seen happening in other countries pick up on the fact that death certificates normally state multiple reasons for a death and only some have covid 19 only on the death certificate. I doubt many Australian death certificate would be like that but not impossible. I think the simplest explanation for only putting covid 19 on a death certificate is overflowing health facilities where the doctor isn't going to spend time caring for the dead and investigation of all the exact causes for half an hour when that body needs to be moved to the refrigerated truck outside and next patient brought in. The other possibility is that they can't determine exactly what happened without an autopsy.

@peterstarmes7110 very bad example, nobody dies from cancer unless the cancer directly shut down a particular organ directly. A cancer death will generally describe the shutting down of the body in the order it occurs. Just as covid 19 hasn't directly killed anyone, I think it's impossible, it's your body fighting it that kills you. The virus never gets to the stage of physically stopping any of your bodies functions.

@David WP What you describe was not uncommon in jurisdictions that either didn't have testing capabilities at the time or over run, too busy with the living. There is nothing wrong with what they did and it would be reasonably accurate. If they referred them all to the coroner he or she would have just got overwhelmed within days when infections and deaths were rampant.

@David WP Are those people dead? Then no because if they ended up in hospital in the trial they would have had 100 tests run on them and if they subsequently died their cause of death would be known with a high degree of certainty. It amazes me you seem to care more for the dead than the living. Now that testing is widely available and most covid 19 deaths have occured in the last 6 months the total death numbers will be reasonably accurate. An accuracy rate of plus or minus 20% would be fine , it would change no decisions. You can also compare data with accurate jurisdictions like Australia , Japan , South Korea etc. and see if anything stands out and probably suspected covid 19 deaths in New York and London early on would be over counted because of dealing with people already dead inside a residence or on the street. And so what if a few deaths are counted as suspected covid when it was diabetes or heart disease, the 2 lockdown killers in Australia responsible for about 1,000 excess deaths in a population of 25,000,000. So someone could probably do some adjustments and it will change nothing. I know that the lockdown was responsible for the excess deaths because ABS ( Australian Bureau of Statistics) had a graph for the first 6 months of last year and it clearly showed excess deaths in March/ April then reverting to below expected again. If the UK adjusted just using gross Australian data if the same spike is not apparent in the UK it can only bring the suspected deaths number down 3,000 which is very low and changes nothing, it would be nothing more than an academic exercise. As far as sky News Australia suggesting we should kill 30,000 people and be like Sweden which they often promoted previously , well although some supporters of that do exist it's not really a popular idea, we don't see people flowing out of Australia to go to partial lockdown countries with mostly freedom to travel, in fact we see those countries with high freedom of international travel reconsidering their position as the body count increases.

@David WP People dying of covid 19 are for the most part dying in hospitals or nursing homes after positive tests. Let's say just to keep you happy 95% of the time in the past the doctors were wrong , this will still only move the death number slightly in percentage terms because not many deaths fit into the category of presumably covid 19. If this wasn't the case flu has been killing hundreds of thousands of people worldwide without being detected which I would suggest is impossible, they are testing people for flu also especially if covid 19 not detected and finding few cases. Flu plus covid 19 seems to be about twice as deadly as covid 19 by itself and although I am uncertain it appears the US does actually test for both quite often. I really don't understand why you are so concerned about the accuracy of death statistics, once they are dead they are dead and nothing will bring them back. People are dying in large numbers that would not have died if it wasn't for covid 19. As far as someone getting a runny nose and getting tested for covid-19 , they were never going to die from a runny nose from rhinovirus which would be the most common flu like symptom I expect. One good thing though, it seems in the trial they did say any symptoms please get tested, not just if get very ill. As far as efficacy of the vaccines I think they all work but don't necessarily believe they are as effective as they suggest and no data 6 months on.

@peterjg it doesn't matter the app achieved nothing most likely, it's better to do everything you can which might work than not enough. If every measure that Australia took needed to be proven first we would be in a very different situation.

@originalkk882 I find your comment interesting in what you have been told regarding not having any serious entry quarantine for travellers. The number of cases it can reasonably said is not relevant any more, if it was only the original B strain coming out of Wuhan it does make sense however for months now it's been known that strains have mutated more than expected and posed a risk of being more transmissible or more deadly or more likely to evade a current vaccine or any combination of the 3 known risks. What you have been told if advised that since about October is either a slack approach or they don't care about those risks that were becoming very apparent a couple of months ago. What has been very consistent between the approach of different countries is some take every risk, in particular Western Europe and US and others consider everything a risk that should be taken seriously which is the Western Pacific approach. The Americas mostly aligned with risk taking and rest of Asia and Africa mostly risk averse. You can actually quite easily identify general regional differences.
