Kathy's comment is silly, the US spends loads of money on health and science that goes with it, the problem is the effectiveness.

@donbell4583 I am ok with us getting vaccines a little slower because others do need it more but on same token and this applies to Australia moreso we shouldn't be condemned for draconian measures, applies to Australian border especially. John doesn't condemn us and probably most viewers on this youtube channel don't either, so not talking of this group as a whole. If that Indian variant is as bad as it seems it might be some countries with fairly high vaccination rates could have yet another wave of cases and deaths, so we have done the right thing. I hope that possibility doesn't occur but prefer our countries treat these new variants as completely new viruses.

@ahish Bolsonaro was quoted as saying people should stop whining in response to people complaining about the death rate I think it was. I think that's pretty hard to beat, I am not from one of those countries but I put Trump, Bolsonaro and Modi all in the same boat along with some others that get less attention because their countries small.

It's already spreading in the US unfortunately.

Not fair for bigger countries, Queensland with the same population of Singapore and New Zealand has done better in my opinion. Proud Queenslander.

@fionalorimer4127 the main thing the legislation does is prevent rich people ignoring the ban, 99% of people in India currently would have no hope of bypassing the ban but if you have money you can find a way, private jet comes to mind if really have money or private yacht or a group could charter a plane.

Your comment cracked me up, normally anyone describing those symptoms would be asking if they might need to go to hospital.

@carylhalfwassen8555 US citizens are slow learners , give the vaccines to other countries that will appreciate it , trying to convince a hard core Trump supporter isn't really worth the time because they won't change their minds.

@bhorleston Actual deaths as reported by ONS based on death certificates is actually higher than the 28 day statistics.

@frankwilson3265 I am unaware of any heroin dealers that have killed 0.2% of the population so not really a fair comparison.

@mrparlanejxtra I haven't followed that, which airport, if you say Sydney it doesn't surprise me they have had more of those types of breeches than the rest of Australia put together.

Because you only lockdown the peasants, high flyers should remain high flyers right?

I hope it is as effective as FLCCC seems to think it is.

You are amongst a lot of company, the US only has voluntary quarantine, it only has guidelines at the national level. The UK in most cases only has 10 days self quarantine but they can stay with family or friends who don't need to take any precautions. In all cases it doesn't meet the definition of quarantine which is designed to stop or prevent spread, these rules are only to slow spread so by definition not quarantine.
1
Half agree with you, still as much attention on India but more on Latin America.
1
That's a good point, I think every single quarantine case is sequenced throughout Australia plus New Zealand and maybe what you say about family groups if it is over the last 6 months. One reason they genomic test every case is to identify if cases have spread either on the plane or in quarantine.
1
Another comment pointed out they might not do that with family groups which I think is a valid point and fairly likely.

@ArmTubeYou Sometimes I laugh when international media talks about new variants of concern, Australia in most cases of the most scary variants finds cases often before the US and most of Europe. I read some article that said Australia had at the time the most variety of variants of concern. But the good thing is those variants die in quarantine or if breech quarantine we lockdown as required. As both our population have very low vaccination rates if any of those variants got out of control we would be in big trouble, they are much worse than the virus a year ago.

I think all of South Asia but other countries not as bad as India yet, but in a few weeks they might be.
