Dr John , you don't understand the Australian situation, the slow rollout goes back to decisions made over a year ago and that was that the AZ vaccine was going to be the main vaccine but as we know Pfizer has been favoured for younger age groups so taking time. The remark about seeing what happens in the UK is literal, we are watching you like a hawk because same vaccines and similar culture, not a joke at all, our cautious approach is dead serious. This same cautious approach can be observed in other Western Pacific countries. In hindsight it could be argued that the Delta variant was predictable however nobody predicted it. Another issue is it's not the starting point that matters it's the end point, New South Wales is far more vaccinated with at least one dose than many US states and in the 70 + age group I believe we as a country are actually ahead of the US. It's a pity about New South Wales and Victoria but they will get there relatively soon and hopefully other states remain at covid 0 for a while longer until high vaccination rates.
