@ajs41 The lockdowns are short and sharp, even the lockdowns in poor old Melbourne would be less in total than anywhere in the UK however they do proper lockdowns and when it was bad nobody can leave the state without hotel quarantine. The closed national border has increased our trade surplus because we are a net importer of tourism as in people travel overseas and spend a lot of money, in our region Bali Indonesia and Phuket Thailand affected because that's the 2 major destinations for Australians. It's been very hard on Thailand because tourism made up a large part of their economy. If the UK closed it's border it would have helped it's economy also because my guess UK is an importer of tourism also spending money in Spain or Greece at a guess. The only issue with the closed border is foreign students which obviously significant if half way through a course.
