In this case it wasn't because a different strain. I do wonder though can it hide somewhere like herpes does until your immune system is low. Earlier this year I did get a virus and I have herpes so a major outbreak. I think it was covid 19 but no way to know for certain because couldn't be tested at the time and got a test fairly recently and it was negative which I was happy to know.

@GoogleAccount-ev2hq I don't think you can say that, the mutation might only be enough to identify. The mutation could be completely insignificant other than for this type of study, or it might be significant, we have to wait and see. Obviously if it's significant it might mean problems for a vaccine. A flu vaccine or HPV vaccine both immunise against 3 or 4 of the most likely or most common strains.

Random samples are taken and DNA tests done in most places. With very low cases like New Zealand currently they seem to be testing all to establish whether every case originates from the same source and so far seems that's the case.
