Headline should be majority of US citizens realise limited socialism should be directed towards humans and not corporations. 70% apparently according to polling would prefer universal ( also called single payer) healthcare and less tax to pay for it when compared to the current expensive non universal system. Life expectancy in the US is about 35th or so in the country or jurisdiction rankings but spending is probably number 1.

  2.  Greg Lakatos  Life expectancy in Australia is about 4 years longer, public health spending in Australia as a proportion of GDP is actually lower than the US and I would suggest especially right now with a virus out of control in the US and Australia with 0 community transmission and any quarantine breach which is unavoidable dealt with swiftly. The US government has higher debt to GDP by a significant amount. According to the Heritage Foundation Economic Freedom Index which is the best available measure of socialism Australia ranks significantly higher , you can check it yourself. So in answer to your question no I am not trying to convince myself Australia has done better, I do believe it has and don't require any convincing at this point in time.
