Other nations have, what do you think Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand have done and South Korea and Japan not too bad either at this point in time. Many other countries want open borders without quarantine, in particular US, UK and most of Europe. You can never stop a virus if you keep inviting it in, not that that matters now because they are the more infected countries.

@jarnylagrata6064 China is more authoritarian and you can see the videos of the lockdown so yes, however many deaths would have been missed in the early stages most likely as would be the case in many countries. I don't bother using China in my arguments generally because people just say they are lying, haven't really had the same responses regarding Vietnam though which is also communist but not really an ally of China since they are in conflict over ownership of some islands.

@jarnylagrata6064 What lie in the beginning? As of 31 December 2019 the Chinese authorities informed the WHO they had an epidemic or WHO informed the world. So what was the cover-up or lie? On 15 January a case was discovered outside of China so every country watching was aware.

@jarnylagrata6064 research what? No novel coronavirus has ever been contained inside of a country. China kept it to maybe 1,000 cases that escaped the country.

The same reason Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia are virtually virus free and multiple very small nations. South Korea and Japan are close also considering their populations. 1. Quarantine at border, 2 weeks mandatory hotel quarantine 2. Test anyone with any flu like symptoms and encourage people to be tested, test results must be fast for step 3 3. Within hours of finding a positive case interview that person finding out everywhere they might have been while infected, publicise and try to contact all who may be at risk of having caught the virus and encourage them to be tested, in the countries mentioned a high level of cooperation due to consistent government messaging without opposition parties undermining the process. It's actually pretty simple technically but hard to do because any mistake can set a country or region backwards in a few weeks.

They can't because they don't trace anything, in many states a let it rip policy where they track nothing but the deaths, so they have no proper idea of who recovers because they have a voluntary quarantine system and no requirement to test negative to return to normal life.
