Hey don't make them too Grumpy, I am in Brisbane , the closest country to me is France. Yes New Caledonia is French territory. I hope your comment is dark humour not serious.

It sort of is I think, they say all politics is local, so for the French voters they have to do something to show they are angry. I don't think we need to worry too much, give it a couple of months then the French can restore the relationships to normal because they are good people and whatever satisfies the local electorate. Not concerned there's going to be a war or something.

@johndoe-cd9vt The Adelaide Australia part of building submarines doesn't change, it just means will be building a new design. What appears to be the issue not explicitly said is nobody would let us have nuclear powered submarines and these diesel ones behind schedule and China ramping up it's military power big time. That's my speculation anyway. My speculation is based on certain things said especially by Australian PM. Another possibility might be Australia changed its mind about having nuclear powered subs because of China's changing position, so no need for diplomacy with them anymore, we already been declared the enemy. China hasn't declared any other country to be the enemy. The Chinese embassy in Australia gave a list of 14 grievances to a journalist and said " if Australia wants China to be the enemy we will be the enemy" paraphrased.

@johndoe-cd9vt the hull is just a hull a lot of steel, that's the part that would be built in Australia and yes it's to use your comparison it's just metal fabrication, of course someone else builds the nuclear reactor bit. It's true like an iphone though that components will come from all over the place. The US isn't going to move it's navy here, they have Guam and Hawaii , nothing's changing in that respect and they already could come here any time anyway. I don't think there will be a war with China but they do need deterrent so they don't consider expansion.
