  1.  @captaindak5119  China is doing to poor nations what the US did last century, load them with debt which ends up with resentment, China's belt and road will be no different, China to maintain those relationship will need to forgive debt or seize assets (still creates resentment) or give actual aid like other countries do currently. Some of the infrastructure might be viable economically but a lot if not most isn't, it just helps Chinese companies, much like the food aid that the US gave to Africa helped US farmers but destroyed local food production because they couldn't compete with free food floating around.

I think building military bases in the South China Sea after saying you wouldn't and putting trade sanctions on Australia noting grievances such as unfavorable media reporting by Australian media and calling for an investigation into the origins of covid in the WHO could be considered highly agressive , maybe not assertive you are right actually.

  3. Don't say authoritarian East, how do you think Japan and South Korea would feel because your language sort of includes them because Democratic West is referring to many nations in a political sense. Maybe say China and Russia because that's the only countries I think you might be talking of.

  4. China is doing that to every international grouping, pick New Zealand for 5eyes intelligence alliance, Cambodia for ASEAN and Sri Lanka and Pakistan for SAARC. China wants to make it so no international organization can make a joint statement of any kind against China.

  5.  pace kenelm  China chooses the smallest and or weakest to target, they target Hungary for example they aren't going after Italy , France , Germany or Spain. If the small country is led by a dictatorship even better because the dictator doesn't care about their country , they just want power.

  6.  pace kenelm  Well talking on this forum , some South Asian people explained SAARC is really more of a concept than a reality because they argue too much between each other and of course China wants it to remain like that.
