In answer to the last question in the clip, Yes. Evidence does point to the people of the Philippines wanting a "strong man" AKA dictator.

@fugak-han0072 The thing you have to understand is the cultural difference between very poor people in a very corrupt country with lots of problems versus people in wealthy liberal democracies. The acceptable number of unjustified killings by the authorities in the latter is 0 , in the former if 500 people are killed without justification and results achieved in significant reduction of crime in general poor people in corrupt countries accept this as necessary. Some comments in the general comment thread actually say this and from talking to people in another country that was in a similar situation I know this first hand that , that is how people think. I would and always will argue you can have both as exists in Western Europe and Australia and New Zealand and South Korea or Japan, the US which the Philippines continues to look up to is a failed model, in some jurisdictions they only catch about 50% of murderers which is probably little different to some jurisdictions in the Philippines. So understand the cultural difference and look to best practice which certainly isn't the US.

You can have both you know, compare US to Western Europe and Australia and New Zealand. Duterte would appear to have the same approach to the US which has 1% of it's adult population in prison and about 5 times the homicide rate and I suspect more drug related deaths than the other countries mentioned. Killing of journalists and activists who might not like the approach is not acceptable and if the government isn't directly involved it does appear they don't care and seems this crime of political related assassination is increasing.
