In Australia we are back to normal except for occasional localized lockdown and travel. There is no big conspiracy theory, get to herd immunity or elimination then things close to normal , only really normal if whole world vaccinated or eliminated virus.

@irenez7439 Sad as someone waiting a year or possibly 2 to get married, although nothing stopping the Australian going to the US as long as they intend to stay there for a decent period of time and the US let's them in which I believe is possible. The US has had rising homicides and suicides as well as the 500,000 direct deaths from covid 19. I don't believe that allowing 35,000 Australians to die which is roughly the number that would need to die if we opened our border like the US would be a good idea and 90+% of Australian would agree and inevitably it would mean internal lockdowns as well causing more mental illness.

@irenez7439 Yes the anecdotal increase in suicides and to some extent homicides in the US were caused by failure to ever actually lockdown which includes things like quarantine and travel, so literally a year of lockdown lite which killed a lot of people. Wouldn't 8 weeks of proper lockdown have been better and 15,000 or so dead from the virus? Wouldn't a government budget deficit of 7% be better than 16%? In one way or another the US will be paying for this for years. Admittedly the initial testing failures and surveillance which was an absolute failure in the US probably would have meant a longer lockdown for the big cities but about 45 states or so would have remained basically fully open after 8 weeks, just can't travel to places like Miami or New York City or Los Angeles.

@irenez7439 Well you are happy with all the freedoms you enjoyed over the last year and the cost to the government and the deaths, I am happy with my state and country's response, so we are both happy I guess. Enjoy your holiday I guess.

@suzque63 I used the words I guess in response to someone else indicating that I guessed they were happy with the US response and seemed to be enjoying a holiday. I am happy that in my state of 5,000,000 there has only been 7 deaths attributable to covid 19 , as I indicated this required about 10 weeks fairly hard lockdown depending how this is defined. Where ever you live where you most likely have had that freedom of no hard lockdown and freedom to travel you are probably happy also.

@suzque63 Why would millions of medical experts, plus politicians of all countries be they dictatorship or democracy or anything in between all collude to make something up? Who could convince these millions to do this, who or what is this higher power more powerful than all the governments in the world put together?
