One thing nobody has commented on is the rules of engagement have changed, no more body cams , it's war now not peacekeeping and that's a big difference, in a war you kill the enemy and crossfire casualties are acceptable, in peacekeeping you are like a policeman with total scrutiny. So I don't think it is at all a given that the Taliban can win, it might cost more innocent lives short term but 20 years of less innocent lives ends up being more innocent lives overall. Hopefully when things heat up this is what happens, it's just a hypothesis, not saying I am right.
