If Camden was a country it would probably be top10 and definitely top20 homicide rate in the world. If that's the standard you want to set anything is possible.

@joshuaacosta5671 I have read a few articles. Several actions have been taken, a larger better equipped force is one of them even if less police in the area normally, stopping open drug markets on street corners, nocking down derelict buildings. Along with as you suggest non police actions. So better management in general. In Australia we have state police only and federal police for international type crimes generally. I do think that municipal police forces is not the way to go, because they are too small and too easily become corrupted and training will be a lower standard. So actually the number of police available seems to have gone up and were probably used when they clearing drug selling areas. If looking objectively it's better than before but still really bad.

@Foul Gerbil abandon local police because in many cases they are not viable and can't possibly have accountability. 18,000 separate police forces. That's probably more than the rest of the world combined. Maybe Trump can use that, more police forces than the rest of the planet he is strong on law and order and it wouldn't be a lie. Go to a state based system like Australia, I wouldn't trust my local government to have police. In the US maybe big city can but need one rule and by state should work.

@destinationskyline07 the US contrary to popular belief is fairly socialist. The problem is the US is not good at spending money. ( Or too good) depending on perspective.

Unions have a place and it's their job to protect their members, to fund defence in the case of an officer being charged. It's not the unions fault if mayor's want to listen to everything they say. The union is not more powerful than the government. Unions are normally aligned to the left side of politics. Crushing unions for what purpose? So it's easier to prosecute police meanwhile , criminals get the benefits of state funded lawyers.

Nah gangs can "police" the streets. Without police they will probably have more resources than the police do now.

Read your last paragraph again, these are the people responsible. Yet I haven't heard a single remove the police chief or mayor. If you agree with what is said need to remove those responsible not those at the bottom end of the food chain which is the officers. Maybe some should go but government officials first.
