@nanbuben.arastar don't hold your breath, while it appears rates of infection have stabilized , it might be the case it just keeps going for another 6 months to a year at the current rate.

While I agree with your general sentiment, I don't necessarily agree that it could have been stopped, the CDC and Fauci initially didn't take it seriously. But after Fauci basically admitted errors were made when he said if lockdowns were put in place earlier it would have saved lives, which is certainly true in NY because hospitals were overrun. The problem is Trump ignored the changed position of the organizations which caused the original failure just as much as Trump. He has kicked a home goal now with many considering him to be completely responsible when he wasn't really in the beginning, it was a joint effort.

Include Australia and NZ , so Australasia as well. It's not only about human diseases. The successful countries also take agricultural outbreaks , food safety and security seriously also. It's the same thinking and often the same types of control measures.

It's really better to compare response by Australia and NZ and to an extent South Korea than China because the lockdown method etc. in China couldn't work in an open Western democracy.

Australia we did real lockdown and most state borders still heavily restricted. But must think looking good is important because barbers and hairdressers remained open. I actually don't say that lightly. It may well have been to keep something normal to an extent. If someone cares about their appearance having long or unkept hair would be a daily reminder things are not right. I don't know that to be the reason but I think it's likely.
