Here's an interesting thing that might relate to what you say, really I don't know what to make of it. China's position is they want to talk to the US to sort out differences which has been far more aggressive than Australia in my opinion but that could be my bias speaking and maybe China doesn't see it that way, however simultaneously it also holds the position which they have held since Australia called for the WHO enquiry into the origins of covid 19 that Australia shouldn't be communicated with until it complies with settling some Chinese grievances, one grievance I found particularly interesting and that was that Australian media outlets including our government funded one even if not explicitly stated are reporting negative things about China. Both Australian political parties on the core issues relating to China totally agree with each other but do disagree at the edges in how this might be best dealt with communication wise from my impression.
