So basically 10% holding 90% of people hostage. Not only that they are trying to overpower US and Canadian government border policies to effect an open border without restrictions. Of course the same would need to be applied at the Mexican border.

Comments from some Canadian's here surprise me, it's almost like you would prefer an extra 15,000 dead people in your country and to follow your neighbours.
4
I prefer our West Pacific herd mentality which says keep that virus the hell away from me.

Burning trucks instead of buildings maybe.

In France and if it happened in the US rubber bullets and gas canisters flying through the air. And that's not after shutting down 30% of cross border trade that's just standard operating procedure. You have no idea what a police state looks, France and the US don't even reach the level I would consider a police state. A group of a few hundred people literally demanded that they install themselves as the government, that's what a police state would look like if they got their way.

Tested with a pin prick or swab up the nose?

@Daniel-ds8nd the what if isn't a what if it's a hypothetical. But I will humor you, well if half a dozen infiltrators can turn thousands of peaceful protestors that wouldn't have passed any barriers into a raging mob that broke through several defenses and injured 150 law enforcement officers then they are geniuses.

@Justsomeoneyoucouldhaveknown in Australia we haven't opened our state borders yet, no Americans will be getting in. I think you will find all countries that have it under control will not open to any that don't. Canada doesn't have it under control, but doing better than US.

People have changed behaviour and just saying reopening does not fill a bar or restaurant. There are 2 different trajectories in the world. Country that have decided to contain and possibly eliminate, mostly East Asia, South East Asia and Australasia and those that try to mitigate and not fill hospitals most of Europe and North America. I don't think containment is really viable in many countries any more and people just won't put up with harsh lock downs anymore like you are seeing in most US states.
1
You could even consider moving the border a little, the US is busy and can't control their own cities at the moment.
1
That was the point, he could have shown about 1.9kg of oranges to represent the 1000mg of vitamin c but it's a bit more weight in rockmelon so more dramatic.
1
No the first case was 9 November and confirmed by genomic sequencing on 11 November.
1
Deaths might be decreasing due to better procedures at nursing homes.
1
Guaranteed the US has it but as the old saying goes if you don't test then you don't have cases.
1
@lefyre1266 that's a bit mean, but here in Australia we don't want anyone from the Americas, so maybe fair enough. Australia and New Zealand can soon become pristine disease free islands I hope, but one Australian state isn't doing so well. 18 in hospital in Australia but 15 in only one state.
1
Every country put restrictions and Taiwan and Vietnam the most successful and probably the countries who are watching China the closest so I think not entirely coincidental . Iceland is really small, a small city state. I wish your country the best of luck but given the number of current cases , choices are limited. Every successful country acted fast , including significant border restrictions, stronger based on comments than Canada's current border restrictions.
1
I notice many "close it forever comments" just wondering are any of them serious or just in jest?
1
What's going on in Australia, tell me.
1
@K W that's just my screen name, originally because I was annoyed with my Australian government some time ago. Turns out I am always annoyed by something politicians are doing. Australia has had a good health response on this virus though. The economic response is pretty messy like everywhere. No way would I want to be in the US situation , Canada looks better but seems not to be able to get the virus to 0 and only contain any outbreaks.

Don't be pedantic

I think you've lost the plot, Biden just has to have a pulse to win, he could be in hospital on a ventilator looking like he won't make and he will still get voted in.
1
The tests seem to work in China , Taiwan, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. Could it be possible that it's not the test itself but the fact that the Americas are full of people with COVI SARS2? Just a thought for you to ponder on.
1
That's not entirely true, the number of road rules makes covid 19 restrictions look like nothing.
1
Antibody tests are not accurate.
1
If you look at recommended intake in Australia they actually explain the studies they looked at to come to the recommendation. All recommendations are excessive to have a buffer and does take into account likely rate of absorption. If you look around the world the recommendations are slightly different but within 10% or so of each other.
1
@filmonhabtom8915 Wait 3 months and Biden will be in and the US will likely still be a disaster even if a little more stable and CBC can point out the failings of the new president which I am guessing you won't mind.
1
If your Canadian 60,000 fellow country men and women alive today because of provincial and federal government's. So damn right it was ok.
1
You can't blame them, that's what you have a border for.
1
The most dangerous suggestion ever. Nobody should become vigilanties supporting a government in power which is what ends up happening. Think of Trump's MAGA mob storming the Capitol.
