But that's what the US did, exactly what you are saying they should have done. The US never locked down, just shut bars and restaurants at times that's about it.

@streamylc Looking from afar , sorry but you are certainly calling the pot black. Both sides of your politics have nutters in them and enablers. If you think I am wrong show me the large and continuous condemnation of BLM/Antifa riots (yes not all did that I am referring to wherever looting and burning city blocks to the ground occurred) , any defund the police advocates and the condemnation of Jan 6. Problem is the supporters of all those 3 things still support those 3 things and haven't been told that's very wrong by their respective sides. Migration trends will usually be from high cost places and or dangerous places to lower cost or safer, there's more lower cost Red states as you call them and they are more rural so perceived to be safer and often are, so you can't read too much into that. Another thing is having Democrat control of small failing jurisdictions is a symptom not the cause quite often, middle class flee and the poor left behind who are more likely to vote Democrat. Anyway best of luck and if you can be critical of both sides it would be good, but unfortunately need the majority to do so for change.

@99dynasty Australia didn't have it worse at all, maybe you can argue Sydney and Melbourne compared to some US cities but nowhere else. The effects of the massive death rate in the US is significant and the riots whether they be BLM/Antifa or Jan 6 indicates things are not ok in the US. Homicides up massively too from a starting point of 5 times the rate on average compared to other wealthy countries. Don't know how our schools will go in a few weeks when they open now that we have gone to minimal restrictions similar to the US and case numbers similar but much higher vaccination rates.

@patricksmith4148 Everything is open except still restrictions on Western Australian border. Everywhere else cases just like the US but we have much higher rates of vaccination, have to wait and see but only the New South Wales hospitals struggling so far with a peak expected in the next couple of weeks, my state Queensland doing fine for now but our peak likely around first week of February or so. Main problem with health systems so far exactly the same as the US, workers catching the virus and quarantine or self isolate.

@99dynasty It really depends where you are, I am in Brisbane, the third largest city and subtropical like Florida. We held onto Covid 0 until 13 December last year and now in our state of 5 million there's 20,000 cases a day or whatever, just like the US the real number will be much larger than recorded number. We had 10 weeks lockdown in 2020 at the beginning and 2 times 2 weeks lockdown in 2021, so here nothing really. Melbourne which is the second biggest and densest city which is about the same latitude but south versus north as New York had massive problems, in part because Victoria took a more relaxed approach to begin with and their contact tracing failed, they had apparently 200 days of genuine lockdown throughout the pandemic. The reason I mention the latitude is it definitely plays a role because the subtropical or tropical climates no big peak whereas the more temperate areas to cold areas all had massive infection peaks, look around the world where the hospitals overwhelmed. Overall though people well supported by government largess if in lockdown and majority including in Melbourne supported the actions. Our deaths are less than 10% of the US so far on a per capita basis and I would suggest that that will remain the case even though of course we getting a lot more deaths, my state has had 3 deaths since our opening, doesn't sound like many but we only had 7 prior to that and of course it's going to accelerate over the next few weeks.

@streamylc Yes I'm from Australia, to sum up my point would be both sides of your politics accept extreme views which should never be accepted and the majority of Americans seem to be ok with this and their chosen side. I am uncertain why you mentioned socialism, both your political parties are protectionist at the moment, that's actually something they agree on and from an Australian point of view I think it's a bad idea, see Australia's ranking in the economic freedom index by Heritage Foundation compared to the US. I think you are well meaning but maybe unrealistic at the moment at least, the hope is something changes the direction of the US.

@streamylc Actually your last explanation helps me understand where you are coming from. Anyway I wish you and your country the best, maybe something will happen that changes the general course of things, eventually something has to happen and I hope it's positive that's from 2 perspectives, for your country and for the world, a US collapse would have significant effects especially to do with China and Russia and their expansionary goals in my opinion.
